Some of us want "the battle of the 20 year olds" USO final!!! (: (: (:

Djoker was due for another easy draw at the USO and I'm being serious. Let's take a look at whom he got at the USO.

2007. Peak Fed
2008. Prime Fed
2009. Prime Fed
2010. near-prime Fed and peak Nadal
2011. near-prime Fed and peak Nadal
2012 The peakiest version of Murray(2012-2013).
2013 prime Nadal
2015 older, but an in-form and dangerous Fed
2016 Peak Stan

That being said, the USO would be much more interesting with Djoker in it(for non-US fans). I'm a US guy, so I have to pull for Shelton. But honestly, I wouldn't be too disappointed to see a Djoker/Alcaraz final. This rivalry is dead-even at 2 matches each. The winner takes the lead in the HTH and the slam HTH. And this rivalry won't last too much longer. Djoker is very old; albeit the most in-shape old player of all time by a wide margin. Alcaraz plays an insanely physical form of tennis, which wouldn't surprise me to see him injured a lot(please no).

Because with a second victory over the same rival he ratified his superiority and dominance over him, it catapults him to the beginning of a new era.
Did that happen in the big three era or did it take about 15 years to get a true sense of who was better?

Also 16 years age difference. We're incredibly lucky to even get a hint of who is better.

So many people on here have been clamoring for young talent to emerge and stuff the Big 3 into the dustbin of history, but when OP says he hopes Shelton beats Djokovic everyone tries to shut him down.

While Djokovic is the favorite and it is more likely we will get a repeat of the Wimbledon final (and here's hoping a repeat of the winner too!) I am rooting for Ben Shelton to win and of course for Carlos to win so we can have "the battle of the 20 year olds"!!!! This in my view would be the best thing for tennis! A real changing of the guard moment away from the big 3 era and into a new era of dynamic younger players taking over and continuing to bring new fans to tennis! Of course I want Carlos to win regardless of who is in the final - it just would be so much greater for tennis if Shelton were his opponent on Sunday! (I am aware that there are many Djokovic fans on here who want him to win and so this post is more for those of us who would prefer a different outcome this year).
If I was Alkaraz fan, I would prefer finals against Novak.
Although short, their rivalry is electric and dynamic.
+ Carlos has a great chance to "revenge" his recent loss.

We'll get more of Shelton over the next 10 years hopefully, for now let's enjoy Djokovic whilst he's still here.

We’ve really enjoyed Novak for a long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long time.

It’s ok if he takes a rest now.

He’s done so much for us all.

First off Djokovic rolls Shelton in straights. Second off, it wouldn’t be a battle of the 20 year olds. It would be a 20 on 20 crime.

Just because Shelton is in the SF, don’t buy the hype that he’s some next great tennis god. Alcaraz destroys him.

Are people aware that Ben Shelton could not win 2 ATP matches in a row between the AO and the USO? He was knocked out by the second match in every ATP tournament he played between Feb and August. He is not the guy to challenge Alcaraz in the final. I would be very surprised if he gives Djokovic a tough battle although he might win a set with his strong serving.

Unfortunately for OP I think Shelton will have limited opportunities to YEEEEEEAH WOOOO himself into gear when his serve is landing back at his feet, over and over and over again. Let’s see what happens.

Shelton would be way more dangerous than djokovic for alcaraz. He can overpower alcaraz. If he beats djokovic it means he can also rally consistently and construct points.
However shelton wont win more than 6 games v Novak.

Personally, I’d like to watch at least one major final this year. I’m 0-3, as I refuse to watch one more Djoker match.

So, yeah, I’m all in for Shelton vs either Alcaraz or Med.

No, he didn't - Cincinnati was rightfully Carlos's win, not Djokovic's - nothing would ever make me change my mind about it.
No matter what you say Carlos lost and Novak won and Carlos took it on the chin just as Novak did when Carlos beat him at Wimbledon. If they do play on Sunday and Carlos beats Novak then we'll done to him and I am sure Novak will accept the defeat even though he won't be happy with it

If you're an Alcaraz fan, then of course you're rooting for Shelton.

The last thing that you need is for your boy to get schooled by the 36 year old Djokovic.

Djokovic vs Alcaraz is the last interesting rivalry that we're going to have for a very long time.

Enjoy it while it lasts.
Nah someone else will rise. Remember greats tend to cluster. The conditions for a tennis great where not there for 90s born kids, but are for kids born after the turn of the century. Alcaraz is an early bloomer.

It's going to take years for that to happen.

Glad we have a battle of hard court giants , Novak greatest hard counter ever up against one of the current great hardcourters and on Novak's kryptonite hard court tournament.

This time I do think we will get an epic unlike their previous 2 meetings in GS final.
