Some Peak Fed Gems

You’ve really hijacked this thread.

Not at all. The thread is about peak Federer and, as opposed to some others, my post is quite appropriate (see Federer statement in March 2019, Dubai). If intention was to watch old footage of Federer the title should have been different.

That was a peak level match though. Murray played well and Fed hit something like 56 winners in a 3 set match past him to only 11 errors. So was Cincy 2015.
Yeah. As I’ve said before, Fed can still reach the level of his peak level, but as he aged he lost consistency and his base level dropped a bit. Now these peak-level matches are rarities instead of commonplace.

Here's a nice long highlights vid of the Wimby 2004 final. This might have already been posted here but what with all the deleted videos, I felt like this would be a good addition.

Roddick played some stunning tennis in the first two sets before a rain delay messed up his rhythm. This was still a great match from Federer as well and he kept it cool after the rain break, unlike his opponent. Nadal and Djokovic would also have a tough time putting away this version of Roddick.

I was watching it this weekend. What can be noticed is how fast the court was and the bounce was low.If you watch a more recent match, you'll see that the bounce is higher.:)

makes me wonder how would current Djokovic do against this Federer when he can't even beat Tsitsipas now.
Well, Djokovic is not playing like in 2015 now , but these courts were really fast and also low bouncing and Fed was ruthless.Djokovic won't be capable to defend well in those conditions imo.

Federer wins all fantasy matches with Djokovic.

Doesn't matter that in the real world he lost 17 of the 25 most important matches they played.

I think it's possible that the Big3 peaked in their 20s on clay and in their late 20s/30s on grass and hardcourt.

Clay is a more physical demanding surface, while fast courts award more the technique/shotmaking.

Maybe Djokovic had his best clay performances from 2011-16, and his best hc/grass performances in 2015-19.

Federer 2006-11 on clay, 2014-19 on hc/grass.
Nadal 2008-14 on clay, 2013-19 on hc/grass.

Nadal's case on grass is a bit strange though, as he had his best results in his early 20s, but he risked early exits in 2006-10 and grass season is very short, giving him small time to adapt and in just one tournament anything can happen.

He's also still playing really good on clay in the last years.

But in your mind Djokovic wins over Federer/Nadal in nearly everything and 2003-07 was a weak era and Djokovic the toughest competition by a long shot so that balances it out.
I don't need to give fantasy wins to Djokovic, I'm happy with what he won with the opponents he had.

Spot on. Federer loses while Djokovic wins only real-life matches. Federer is TTW Fantasy Champion.

You do not but you create threads with all these stats and things and often go against your own theories just to degrade Federer. They are fanboys but at times those who think a peak Federer is heaps above the best Djokovic but you are not better at all.

This is another example of a opinion that cannot be proven. You engage in them as well....

Just like how Djokovic is always beating Federer at his peak despite being nearly 40 years old right?
I am going to enjoy watching peak Djokovic losing to the likes of Medvedev and Tsitsipas for years to come.

Peak Djokovic lost to Thiem on clay at RG twice in 2017 and this year. What are you talking about?

Fed’s best years on HCs and grass were 2003-2007. Not 2014-2019 where he won only 3 slams.

Haven't seen these classic peak Fed masterclass matches in full on youtube with this quality with the American broadcasts especially(sure they aren't the greatest but hearing the McEnroes and the usual suspect with the old Wimbledon theme music always brings back great memories). Besides the 05 Wimby semi I haven't seen any of these matches in full since I originally say them. This youtube user is the man!! Some of Federer's very best. I plan to watch them all in chronological order! Hope for all the other members of the Fed frat you guys enjoy them too and we can reminisce about the glory days. @NatF @TheMaestro1990 @Martin J @tennis_pro @tennisaddict @Gary Duane @FedFosterWallace @nowhereman @Sysyphus @abmk and of course the biggest Fed fan I know @jm1980 :)D) and whoever else I forgot, enjoy!

Fed celebration thread (with beautiful tennis I admit) but nothing to commemorate PETE from a Sampras fan?
Sad.

2019 Fed lost to Tsitsipas at the AO, so he would lose probably in straights to Safin.Choose a better versions of Fed from the 10s at least, not one of the worst.

If someone would take Tsitsipas 15 years back in time (time machine), Safin would struggle to get a game.

It's not like tennis is played at a stratospheric level compared to 2005, much less when you are talking about Tsitsipas, a guy who has yet to reach a slam final. You are wrong.
