Some people just can't accept the facts...

Why does some people on this forum can't bare the truth that Novak Djokovic became a top class player, and that he is in this very moment a main threat to ATP no. 1 position?

Why do they continue to underrate the performances of this tennis player by trying to turn all the threads in to a discussion about what his mother or father said?

Hasn't Novak proved already that he can beat anyone, and that he is capable of winning grand slam titles, that he is a true sportsman and a great player?

He has become a top player. His tennis was great.

That does not make him a top class player, as you put it, or a true sportsman.

There are many reasons why he is disliked. But I won't deny that he's a top tennis player.

Well, I can give you one word why Joker can't be #1: clay. Oh, and I can add another one: grass.

Hey, the kid can ball. There's no doubt about it. But to say he's a threat to #1 because he just won a GS? Dude, give the #1 & #2 guys some credit. Rafa's got 3, Fed's got 12. All of the sudden this kid's going to be #1 because he just won 1? And just out of curiosity, how did Joker do at the end of 2007? I'm trying to remember. . . who was it that he lost to? Oh, and how did he do in the Master's Cup?

And you call him a sportsman? He makes fun of the other players, and he has never accepted defeat well. You don't remember what he said about Rafa after Rafa beat him at the FO a couple of years ago? Joker had to retire, and yet in his press conference, he says he was controlling the points. I think Brad Gilbert summed it up best: "Was he watching the same match I was watching?!"

Joker has a LOT to prove. Most notably, he needs healthy servings of modesty and respect for his fellow players.

Don't get me wrong: I am glad to see a new face added to the mix. He can play, and he is fun to watch. But I just don't care for how he carries himself, and the comments that he and his family make. If Novak can keep up this level, then great. But history has proven otherwise. Don't forget that it was only 2 months ago when SANTORO handed Joker his ass on a silver platter.

I agree, his tennis is top class. His persona on the hand, is worse than a parasite infected rodent that can make people puke just by the sight of him.

Might be a little too much on that one, champ. Can't imagine his persona inducing someone to blow chunks!

The Djoker is a great player, but even when Safin won the Australian 3 years ago and beat FedEx in the semis, he didn't take Roger's seat...

Which reminds me of some really easy points to get at the end of the year.

Doesn't mean people have to like him. Get over it.

Also doesn't mean that people have to talk about his box, or his family all the time... Every time Novak's name is mentioned, there will be someone who say: Did you hear what his mother said about Roger???

Don't have to like him, just respect him enough to leave him and us enjoy the success he made...

No it doesn't mean people have to like him but there are to many threads whining about how he is classless, arogant, etc. Those are the people that need to get over the fact that Djokovic finally won a slam and he will probably be here for a while at the top level so they have to learn to accept him.

Just another if you don't like Fed you must die thread. From the garbage that people post around here you would think there wasn't a classy player left in the world.

Of course he's a major threat to be #1. The numbers speak for themselves:

As of Mon, 1/28/08

1. Federer 6630
2. Nadal 5980 (major threat)

3. Djokovic 5165 (major threat)

4 Davydenko 2725 (non-threat)

Aww poor Dave, no one sees him as a threat :)

Great body though.

To be sure, Djokovic has some endearing traits. He also has some problematic ones. It still seems to me his mouth is a lot bigger than his game.

I don't see a lot of people doubting his ability. Just a lot of people hating on him, because lets be honest here, he's a pretty unlikable guy.

Did you call Djokovic a sportsman? No, he's proven he's unclassy and a sore winner/loser IMO. I dislike him not because of his tennis, but because of his attitude.

Semi at the French and semi and Wimbledon. I don't want to hear about his "dream draws" either. He was 19 years old at the time. He's perfectly suited to be a serious threat on both clay and grass. Stop smoking crack.

Doesn't matter how many slams Roger has. Roger was in serious danger of losing his #1 ranking to Nadal already this year. All he had to do was lose in the 4th or 5th round of the Aussie and have Nadal win the title, which was a distinct possibility. Do you really think Djokovic was 100% at the Masters Cup? Did you watch him? It's the end of the year tournament. Djokovic was clearly fatigued. What does a poor showing at the year end tournament mean, especially considering he just won the year's first slam?

And you call him a sportsman? He makes fun of the other players, and he has never accepted defeat well. You don't remember what he said about Rafa after Rafa beat him at the FO a couple of years ago? He does impressions of other players. People like them. Get over it. Also, can you think of another instance where Djokovic was a bad sport? Perhaps he was delusional, or joking, but I don't even really consider that bad sportsmanship compared to other occurrences.

Name another player who has had half, yes half, the nasty comments about his personality, of all things. Ridiculous. You don't have to like him, respect him, of admire him but don't rant how you hate, despise, and resent him. Just smells like jealousy. Stupido, amigo.

There's the 'jealousy' comment again, as if it's not valid to hate on the guy without being 'jealous'. Yeesh.

I don't have anything against anyone on the ATP but Djokovic is very unlikable. Him and Roddick are the worst. Sense a connection there?

I find him quite likable. He's no Rios. He told the Aussie crowd he loved them even though they were rooting for the other guy. He didn't have to say that but he did.

Regardless, saying he's no threat to Roger is ridiculous. He just beat him in a slam and is gaining in points. Now I do think it's odd that Federer won three slams last year and is threatened by a guy who just won his first, but the bottom line is that they're pretty close in points.

I.e., he's a threat.

the only people who are saying that he's no threat are djoko fans who make threads saying that people are saying he's no threat. These types of people are all over the place.

Djokovic:"It is an indescribable, incredible feeling to beat in three straight sets the best player in the world, and one of the greatest players that this sport ever had."
"It is hard to play against the man who is so superior on every surface, and who is making success after success in last few years."

If this is not a statement of a true sportsmen, and a respectful tennis player, than what is it?
