Some Pros "Mail In" Their Matches...?

I'm wondering if anyone else noticed this....

Clijsters' post-match interview notwithstanding -- where she said she played really well against JHH in their Semi -- I thought she looked very much like she was almost "going through the motions" in that match. She'd be up a break ... and exhibit no "fire" to finish off Justine. In fact, it appeared just the opposite to me. Almost as if her attitude was, "There. I broke her. Now people will believe I'm really trying ... so I'll coast through the rest of this."

I found myself thinking the same thing watching Nieminen play Nadal. (True. I didn't think he had a chance either, but GEEZ!) If I'm playing someone I'm not supposed to be equal to, I GO FOR IT, with a "What do I have to lose?" attitude. Nieminen seemed defeated before the first three games were over.

Where's the hunger? ... the competitive spirit? ... the Molik-attitude of "Don't die wondering!"???

Comments???

I agree. We see this too often on a tennis court. Some players just don't have what it takes, I guess.

when someone plays really good, it can make the other guy look really bad... i think it's just an illusion... it's easy from the sofa chairs, guys, come on.. there's a lot of pressure out there. also many don't realize that at that level of tennis what how much of the battle is purely mental, which can make people look bad, or like they are not trying their hardest.

Yeah... it's like, "I don't really want to win. I'm fine with this position." What the hell are you in the tournament for, then? Remember, like I always say, you've gotta be in it to win it. O:< And try, too! :|

Yeah! I noticed it.
And if I may add: when's Alicia Molik going to come back? Love that girl.

Now, I'm pretty sure there is not going to be any phoning, mailing, or emailing in or performances this weekend.
