Some racket advice needed please

Gadz

Hi all,

I'm really struggling to find a racket i like at the moment and keep choppin and changing and it's ruining my game at the moment. I'm looking for a racket with control as I'm trying to improve my consistency alot. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any rackets. A head size between 98 and 100 would be best for me and anything above 310g in weight. It's a minefield out there! I never knew it would be so stressful finding a racket. I loved the old prestiges from Head (probably my best racket) but I've heard the new graphene range is pretty awful from reviews on here? Any help and advice would be great

Youtek IG Prestige MP is $99 at TW.

You seem to know the sort of spec you want, 11oz+ weight, 98 headsize, control oriented racquet. You know you like the older Head Prestige models, so if you look up one of those on the TW site it will give you suggested similar racquets.Or just use the racquet finder tool.

It doesn't need to become a minefield, but it can do when asking for suggestions. Everyone has their own opinion but they are largely based on what they like but this is about what you like.

Consider Technifibre 315, Blade 98, Prince Tour Pro 98. They all seem to fit your spec.

The Youtek IG Prestige MP is one of the best rackets I've ever tried, and suprisingly easy to swing compare to f.inst. the Blade 98 (18x20) and the Rebel 95.

I have read nothing but good things on the Wilson six one 95 (18x20). Anyone here tried them yet? I just wish it had a 98 head size instead of a 95

I had the six one 95 18x20 BLX 2010. Lovely. Great control and feel. Not a lot of power. Bit of a small sweet spot, if you hit off center the racket is rather stable but you'll hit a short weak shot. When rushed I had to work a bit too hard to swing it fast enough for hitting ground strokes, which bothered my arm. I switched to a tweener racket. (I think far too many of us want to play with a player's stick more suitable for higher level players)

Hi all,

When demoing racquets, make sure you focus on your form and just let the racquet do what it does. Don't make big changes to your technique just to suit a racquet that's obviously not for you. Find the stick that fits your game, not the other way around.

I agree. Everyone wants to play like Federer but we can't all swing a heavy racquet like he can. So don't try. I play with a pretty light racquet but that's what works best for my conditioning. I'm not weak, but the lighter racquets let me get the racquet back and forward quicker, which makes up for my admittedly lazy footwork.

Looking at the Head Radical specifications, it looks perfect but has anyone felt what it plays like? I have never had a hit with a recent radical.

Nice price on the MG Radical, but those are both soft and not especially heavy. While they probably have some measure of inherent control, you might not get a whole lot of oomph out of that frame. The truth is in the demo - if you can get a hold of one. They're actually just about cheap enough from TW that you could consider the "buy it to try it" approach. The Radicals are popular for a good reason.

I'm a big Volkl fan, so I'll encourage you to maybe look into both versions of their Organix 10; 325g and 295g. The Volkl Orgainix 9 is on sale at TW for low dough, too. I've heard lots of good stuff about the Prince Classic Graphite 100, but haven't gotten out with one... yet.

This is the thing. I want a racket that isn't stupidly popular but as good as one of the popular onew. Hardly anyone uses the head prestige down the club i play at, but i guess it shouldnt matter. Rackets are obviously popular because they are good right?

Take a look at Tecnifibre. Everything I have tried from them is high quality. The 315 feels great, but requires a little lead to unleash its full potential. The 320 doesn't feel as good, but is better in stock form, IMO. I think either will give you what you are looking for. And, I dare guess that the 305 & 325 are excellent frames as well.

you really cant go wrong witha prestige though it might be a bit underpowered for most you will find out if you are in that spectrum. A safer bet is the Microgel radical MP... a little more pop but still a control frame and comfortable.

What's the latest Graphene radical like? TW have said good things about it

IG Prestige MP is a great racquet, but it does need a bit of lead at tip of the racquet to shine. That adds perfectly to the lowish swingweight of the stock racquet.
