Really? She pulled the same "anxiety time out" in a final with Williams, that she ended-up winning. Her powers of recuperation are amazing!

Nastase had a hidden agenda nothing to do with tennis and was directly aimed at Romanians in the U.K. . His rant to the media was pathetic .
He should be stripped of his supervision rights.Supervisor thought she was entitled to it. He gave it to her.
Rubbish, you did not watch matchHe should be stripped of his supervision rights.
Konta's gamesmanship was inexcusable and without any historical precedent (problem was solved, Nastase was already escorted out, play had already resumed and they were a couple of games further when Konta faked it in order to blunt Sorana's then nascent momentum). Had she acted that way when Nasty was still there then one would say, OK, this is extraordinary and she may be entitled to go away from the court (under the justification that she needed to separate herself from Nasty/whoever else was a threat to her ASAP). But that didn't happen.
What happened instead was a tactical MTO - pure and simple. The timing of it leaves us with no doubt.
As a British citizen, who has also taken advantage of FOM and now consider myself European, I find this sort of post extremely distasteful,Apparently Britain is fearful of an invasion of Nastases into Britannia - a fact that a Romanian nationalist would tend to respond to whenever and wherever:
Theresa May reportedly plans to end rights given to EU nationals under freedom of movement rules when she triggers Article 50 next month, with a Government source claiming that “half of Romania and Bulgaria” might otherwise come to the UK before Brexit.

Why does it have to be about nationality, maybe it should be about manners

I have no love for the British papers, and maybe just maybe you are over reacting, and you maybe be right on sport and nationality, but Jo konta has always been low key because of her rootsThe British papers are running a scare campaign about this issue, and people in Romania would be will aware of it.
As George Orwell said, nationalism and sport are inextricably entwined.
So don't shoot the messenger, just put your hands over your ears if you find reality distatesful!
Jo konta did not take advantage,,the advantage was taken by Natase, did you watch the match?I did. She tearfully dropped serve in the next game - then got a 25 minute break to "recover". Which is unprecedented gamesmanship.
Never seen nor heard such a favor before. This was not the first cup tie that was very hostile to the guest team. I remember Russia versus Israel when Sharapova and her team was treated badly in Israel - Masha didn't get 25 min "recovery gift". Likewise Serena was booed non-stop from start to finish at the 2001 Indian Wells final - that wasn't even Fed Cup - yet she played with 0.0 minute interruption. She didn't even bounce balls longer than usual. That's what you do when yer a pro.
Konta was not "owed" 25 minutes. She calculated and took advantage of an opportunity that was created by Nasty. Which is still wrong (two wrongs don't make a right).
So this gives a clearer picture of what really happened and now I can fully understand konta's reaction. I wouldn't rule out that he made leery comments/advances towards her too.Oh no, it was bad man. Not only did Natase ask Keothavong (British coach) for her room number before the tie, but he was throwing a hissy fit and acting like a *****. Reports are that he had some choice words for the British Fed Cup team, he called them a bunch of bitches among other insulting things as the whole situation unfolded. Truly a disgraceful man with zero class and integrity.

Cirstea's comments were out of order, not least the tacked on claim that the affair shows that Romanians are tougher than 'English' people (didn't seem to know she was up against 'Great Britain' rather than England, but anyway).
At the end of the day, Cirstea is largely a nobody in tennis terms, and Konta is a somebody. It says a lot that this probably the most you'll hear about Cirstea over the next five years.
Konta will always now be remembered in tennis history as the tearjerker queen.
What are the odds that those telling Konta to just get over are all men? And while that isn't exactly a raving platitude for women it does hold weight in this instance when you look at the totality of the situation...you have a captain, coach, and tennis legend calling you one of the worst curses a man can call a women doing so in the heat of the match could make anyone emotional. We are focusing too much on the crying and neglecting the emotional aspects, we are also overlooking the facts. While not crying imagine an opposing Davis Cup captain cursing directly at Andy Murray can you fathom his reaction, it would be fireworks and ::gasp:: Andy is a man.
Nastase would never say anything directly to Serena. He's just too much of a coward.

I feel bad for Konta. She must have been gently raised, unlike myself. My reaction would have been to hurl a vicious bit of verbal abuse right back at him. Of course, in my experience, angry men have a tendency to turn physical when that happens. It's the risk you take. That's probably why women like Konta, nice women that is, unlike me, tend to tears as an outlet for the anger, fear, and humiliation.
What racist commend did Nastase make concerning Serena ?
The ignorance of people never ceases to amaze. Mark Twain was right. "Don't argue with fools."
I don't mean to belabor this subject. I liked Nastase as a player, but he was a famous ball-buster. I watched a great clip on YT of he and Borg playing against Laver and Ashe on clay. Ashe was serving & questioned a couple of faults, and Nastase rubbed the mark out of one of them like a "cheney". A game or two later, Nastase was questioning one of his own faults, and LAVER(!!) rubbed the mark out! Hey, fair is fair. What I thought really telling was how humorless "Nasty's" reaction was. If you're going to bust-balls & dish it out, you can't be surprised when they dish it back.
So, I know what a rat he can be. And, thinking about it for a few days, I'm a little more sympathetic to Konta than I was. I'd be more sympathetic if this was her first "melt down" on court, but still, Nastase was out-of-line. And I would have sworn back at him, unless I swore at him first, or started something. If you start something expect a response, right?
But, just for my own curiosity, I want to know what set him off. I don't think Konta or Anne K. swore at him. Did he have an argument over a call with an official, then take it out on the Brits? I can't find the initial problem. Just a dozen "Nasty Assaulting Saint Jo" vids. PLEASE don't make me watch that match. If anyone knows what started everything, let me know. I'll report back with my findings if I force myself to watch it. Then render my verdict. I have been known to request The Electric Chair on occasion. And I won't hesitate to put a woman in that chair, either. Fair is fair, right?! ;^)B
