I'm curious as to what causes the ball to sound differently when it makes contact with one's racket on different surfaces. KEEP IN MIND I'm not talking about when it hits the surface, but rather when you actually hit the ball. Here are some examples
Hard court
Clay
Grass
I know that different surfaces take away varying amounts of kinetic energy, but does it have to do with the speed you hit the ball, or the vibration of the shot (when the ball makes contact with the racket, not actually hitting the surface) being transmitted through the surface (and how the surface absorbs the vibration is what causes the sound)?
