Speed MP...but in a 98

Recommendations the closest playing frame to the 2022 Speed MP, but in a 98? Love a lot about the Speed MP, but I found it lacking in maneuverability as I think prefer a smaller head size.

So what 98 sq inch racquet plays closest to the Speed MP 2022? I am okay with a small drop in power as I also found the Speed MP to be overpowered at times.

The Blade 98 16x19 is a little drop in power but pretty good all court racket. Very maneuverable because of its thin beam, but also very stable.

It's not head size; the Speed MP is just a less maneuverable frame than it seems like it should be imo. Don't rule stuff out like the Prince Tour 310, Dunlop CX 400 Tour, the Percept 100 (haven't tried this one myself), Blade 100, or one of the Pure Strike 100s.

Are you playing the v9? I played the V7 and liked it, but I believe I had an underspec frame on SW which made it feel more whippy.

Yeah, I mained the v8 last year and this year got a v9 from the TW playtest (my review of it is in the thread). My v9 came a little underspec too so I have 4g of lead at 12. It’s a tad stiffer than the v8 and the v6 (I have the non-CV version of that too) but I’ve never played a v7 so I can’t compare. It also has a touch more power than the v8.

Definitely the Extreme Pro - to me it's a spin friendly version of the Blade, very whippy and this 2.0 is slightly more stable than the 1.0. Great for serving and volleys, my only knock on it is the muted feel, but that isn't much different than the Speed.
While it's called Extreme and affords decent spin, it doesn't really feel like the traditional spin racquet. If you envisioned what a Speed 98 would play like I would say the Extreme Pro is very close to that ideal with slightly less mass in the hoop that you could customize with some lead tape. I'm currently enjoying it as-is but I may tinker with lead down the road.

X2, That would be an awesome racquet.

IMO Blade and Extreme are entirely different rackets, that play nowhere near the Speed MP
The Speed is farely open in its pattern and has a lot of power, which the Blade doesn't have and the Extreme is spin oriented.

Those here are all around rackets with a tendency of power:

Whiteout 16x19
Pure Drive 98
Ezone 98
TF-X1 v2

The guy wants a drop in power because he finds the Speed overpowered at times, and you want to recommend to him a Pure Drive?

So the main focus is the maneuverability and it is ok to drop in power - the Pure Drive 98 is super powerful for a 98, but not the most powerful of all rackets.
You get the same power as Speed MP, but more precise and maneuverable - sounds good to me

On the other hand, the Extreme is a completely different racket - not for power, but for spin and shape in your shots

I find the speed mp to be a far more spin friendly frame than the extreme 98. I guess everyone’s experiences vary.

Yeah. Sometimes I wonder when people say the Extreme Tour/Pro is a spin racquet if they have actually played with it. The launch angle is quite low actually (considerably lower than the Speed MP) and while the potential for spin is there, you need good technique to get a lot of spin out of it as it's not automatic spin like the Extreme MP, PA, and other spin racquets. Meanwhile the Speed MP has always been kind of underrated in the spin department IMO.

I played with two generations of Extreme Tour and the racket isn't a spin monster, but it definitely works best if you use shape on your ball. Same goes for something like the Vcore 95, not super spinny but it is made to hit with spin by design.

The Speed MP is made for flat hitting and allround tennis, even though it might have a good spin potential. A racket like the Pure Drive or the EZone works in the same way, albeit it might have a similar account of launch by itself

A pretty open 16x19, 100” head, 300 gram racquet to me is the definition of a spin oriented racquet. If I were hitting flat with that thing I’d be an error machine. It’s got a very high launch angle and power profile. IMO it’s a full on spin racquet.

The pure drive is another one that’s not marketed as such but with a slightly juiced swingweight it would probably be the most spin friendly racquet on the market if it isn’t already. Only people hitting flat with pure drives are 70 year olds who legitimately need the extra power to clear the net.

Current pure drive is far more spin friendly than current aero if swing weight is made equal.

I know I’m changing the subject I’m just bored and on a roll.

Spec isn't the same, but I'm going from Clash 98 to Speed MP and they give me similar qualities. Clash is more whippy, less stable, more shape, less power.

Boom Pro
Extreme Tour/Pro
Radical MP (more stiffer)
Textreme Tour ATS 98

The RF 01 is an excellent racket for attacking but isn't quite like the Speed MP. I myself am looking for a Speed MP but in a 98/97.
The Speed MP is amazing. It's easy to play with it. It's forgiving, powerful and has excellent control. It's also very comfortable. But it lacks maneuverability when it comes to hit one handers. 100sq and 23mm beam do that I guess. So I guess I also am looking for a Speed MP in a 98 and I'm not sure the RF 01 is that ; it's not forgiving and not as comfortable, it's stiffer and doesn't have a constant beam.
Haven't tried the Boom Pro and Whiteout yet. Are these a must try in my situation?
Thanks a lot.

Those two are excellent options and you should try them; I'd also try the Extreme Pro, and if you want to wait a bit, the Gravity 98 might be coming out around the Aussy Open timeframe

Pure Aero 98?

Although that’s pretty much the Boom pro specs
To be pedantic, the Boom has the “morph beam” the radical esque beams with the gravity/vcore esque tear drop

I think Speed 98 wishers want that skinny speed beam which is a fair wish especially now that we’ve gotten the Gravity Tour

Although there are far too many silos and a decent amount of models per silo

98 head, 22M beam, 16x20, more HL - “Speed Tour”. I’d be interested.
I was saying the exact same thing to my hitting partner today. I kept saying, if my Speed MP was a 97, it would be amazing. The string bed is a little vague on the forehand side and sluggish on the serves. Although a beast, I tried his RF97, and it was AMAZING on the forehand side, but I couldn't time a OHBH to save myself LOL. It was on clay so that made it ten times worse. I'm sure on hardcourt, it would have been easier, but yeah, if HEAD made a Speed 97 Tour, i'd buy 3 tomorrow.

I’d imagine timing on clay would be easier. You have a lot more time to react

No it's the opposite for me. I thrive in fast court / fast reaction environments but with hard court, I can rely on how the ball is going to come at m (usually low bounce), with clay, it's a bit unpredicatble with the bounce or slide of the ball (coming at you high). I know that sounds counterintuitive, but it's more about the trajectory and predictable bounce of the ball.

Spec wise, Whiteout 16x19 V2 305 would be the closest thing to a Speed 98.
1. Oval head shape ( as opposed to PA98's circular, Yonex's squared, Gravity's tear drop, Blade's egg shape)
2. Constant beam thickness, although a bit thinner 21.7 vs 23 so lower powered.
3. A hybrid between box beam and modern beam (Whiteout is closer to box beam, again, lower powered)
4. The new arch 2 lay up is comparable to head auxetic (muted and plush)
There'll be room for customization to get your desired SW and balance.
The only major difference is that Whiteout is foam-filled while Speed is not.

Solinco whiteout V2 or V1.

How about dunlop sx 300 tour?
It is a little thicker at 3 and 9 (26mm vs 23mm constant beam)but it is quite stable and manoevrable.
You could also try dunlop fx tour which has similar specs

I was told today that Head is set to release the Speed 97 Tour 16x19...
