Speed MP vs Extreme Tour

I’ve been researching extensively about racquets and which racquet would suit me. I really like the Head racquets, so I decided to choose among the Head racquets. I mainly looked at the Radical, Speed and the Extreme line. After a bit, I’ve narrowed my choices between the 2 racquets, and right now, I’m currently torn between the Speed MP and the Extreme Tour. I’d like to know the comparison between these two racquets, to the people that own both of these racquets, in terms of performance in-game.

I currently rotate between a Radical MP, Extreme Tour, and Speed MP - so I can potentially give you some helpful feedback - what specifically would you like to know? What's your game like, and what are you looking for in a racquet?
I currently play with prestige Mp and love the control but want more power
Looking at the extreme Mp to demo cause I prefer 98 over 100 head size

1) Between the Speed MP and the Extreme Tour, which racquet has more power? More control? Also which racquet would do well on defense or on offense? How about serving or on volleys?
2) I also got questions regarding the Radical MP. How is the spin there? As well as power? Is the power level of the Radical MP higher than the Speed Pro?

As on my game, I view myself as a counterpuncher that’s focused on high percentage tennis. I see myself as a great defender, and I am pretty quick myself. When I have an opportunity to attack, then I would do that, but I do that in a low-risk way. I have an average volley, but the real weakness is that I do struggle to generate good power though, and have a hard time on serving. I’m looking for a racquet that enhances my strengths, while at the same time is forgivable on my weaknesses.

Prestige MP is also a 98. Speed MP feels considerably stiffer, larger head, less feel than Prestige. I think Radical MP or Pro is a good intermediate stick. Extreme Tour has a little more power than Radical but still pretty controllable.

I have the G360+ Prestige MP (most flexible, comfortable, lowest launch angle, hits flat), Rad MP (good mix of control, power and spin), Extreme Tour (most pop but still good control, lots of spin, also pretty comfortable).

Speed MP has more power than Extreme Tour. Not much but noticeable. I’d say Extreme Tour has average power (if you add about two grams of lead at the top of the hoop), Speed MP good power and something like a Pure Drive a lot of power. Speed Pro is low powered and something like a Prestige Pro or Prestige Tour has very low power.
Radical MP will have less spin and stiffer feeling compared to Speed MP and Extreme Tour. It’s also average on power.

Given your description I’d go for Speed MP. If you like defense but struggle to generate power, this one will help you most. It’s forgiving, nice power, easy to serve. When you play high percentage tennis you need to be consistent and play deep, Speed MP will help you with that.

If 2HBH, Speed MP as it's a bit more polarized than the other 2.
If 1HBH, Extreme Tour with some customization. (more weight on the grip and some at 4/10)
Radical MP is in between those 2 and will be good with whatever backhands. I find it too stiff and least arm friendly of the 3.

The Speed MP and the Extreme Tour are shockingly different.

The Extreme Tour is a pure control racquet that's pretty underpowered stock. If you aren't willing to add lead, you really need to go for the Speed MP. The Radical MP would be a better compromise between the two.

1. I think the Speed MP has more power, but given the higher swingweight, it's easier to swing the Extreme Tour faster and generate a decent amount of power. I think the ET is a bit more precise and controlled, and probably a more natural choice if you're an aggressive all-courter that likes to hit your spots. I do think the Speed is probably better on defense, since the extra weight in the head and the free power will make the racquet a bit more stable when you're pushed wide and reaching for the ball. Serves and volleys I would give the edge to the Extreme - the extra maneuverability and precision makes it easier to navigate through contact and generate a lot of pace, while still hitting your spots. The Speed might give you more stability on your volleys, if you have trouble finding the right contact point, but the Extreme is more maneuverable and should allow you to react a bit faster.

2. I think the Radical is a great option in between the Extreme and the Speed - more power than the Extreme, more precision than the Speed - comparable spin to the Speed. The power level is definitely higher than the Speed Pro...sort of. The Pro has more weight behind, and that will always provide you a certain level of power that you will be hard-pressed to get in a lighter racquet. It's much easier to use than the Speed Pro, though.

From your description of your game, I would probably recommend the Speed MP more than the Extreme - the Extreme probably works better for more aggressive players, rather than counterpunchers. One additional thing to consider is how your hit your backhand - the Extreme is much more head-light than the Speed, and that typically favors one-handed backhands. The Speed will work just fine for a one-hander, but it is definitely weighted better for two-handers.

Hopefully some of that helps, feel free to ask if you have any other questions!

Based on this description, I think you'll do better with the Speed.

Thanks for all the answers! What string setup and tension would you recommend with the Speed MP?

What kind of context are we looking at? If you're a beginner-intermediate, people often recommend a durable synthetic gut like Prince Duraflex.

I’m not exactly sure if I can say beginner-intermediate or intermediate-advanced so I’ll probably say in UTR terms, that I’m around the 4.0-4.5 mark

Hi there. I wonder what racquet you chose and how you feel today with that decision. I'm in the same situation but with the Speed MP 2024 and Extreme Tour 2022.
What would you guys recommend for an aggressive baseliner who wants to finish points fast? I want to play short points. I have a big first flat serve but I struggle a bit with the second kick serve, I'm pretty tall(187cm). I have a very fast forehand, I'm not lacking any power there but my 2HBH is more or less. I would say I'm around 3.5-4.0 USTA or NRTP.

They are both at a discount for a total of 200 USD. So I need to make a decision soon. Thank you for your help.

Speed MP for sheer power to put away shots from the baseline.

Thanks for the clarification. It wasn’t clear from your initial post that you were looking for how the speed mp might augment your game beyond short points won off power shots from the baseline, which is what I would say the speed mp is good for, at least compared to other racquets in Head’s line-up.

Im actually in the same situation
Im a 3.0-3.5 player who plays an extreme MP right now.
But my problem is, if I wanna hit winners I often shoot the balls out cause ( i guess) can’t generate enough spin.

I like rally from the baseline the most and try finishing points from there

I don’t know if i should switch to the extreme tour or the speed mp

Maybe you should work on your techniques, cos no racquets will instantly let you hit winning topspin shots from the baseline.
EMP is a decent racquet if you can hit topspin shots properly.
Why only Head racquets?

The feel of Head racquets is just my favorite, they are just so plush. I have tried many racquets. I also have an Ezone100 but it is just too powerful and I don't like stringing too tight(above 52 pounds). Very good racquet though, for someone lacking power.

I just ordered an 1 hour used speed mp legend for 165€

Is the speed mp legend the same as the normal mp?
Just another paint job?
It looked so beautiful I just couldn’t resist

Hello everyone! I love Head racquets and I want to invest in 2 racquets that suit me best. I can't demo them locally so I have to rely on you and the internet. Thanks for the help in advance.

A bit of context. I would say I'm around 3.5-4.0 USTA or NRTP. I'm starting to play some local tournaments, I train 3+ days a week and I wanna get better every day. I'm pretty tall(187cm). I'm not the most delicate guy, I like to hit hard and I want to finish points fast. I like to play short points. I have a big first flat serve but I struggle a bit with the second kick serve, I have a very fast and deep forehand (My best shot. I'm not lacking any power. Rather something helps me keep the ball in). My 2HBH is more or less. I would say It needs work on my footwork more than the racquet itself. It wouldn't be bad to get something that helps me hit better backhands and slices. I would say I'm an aggressive baseliner who wants to close points fast, not a fan of long rallies, I lose when I do that.

What would you guys recommend? Head Extreme Tour 2022 or Speed MP 2024(they are both at a discount in TW for 200 USD)

I just had the opportunity to demo the Wilson blade 100 v9 in comparison with my head extreme

I felt the feeling on my extreme way better.
The blade has way less power and it was much harder to get that ball over the net.

But it felt more crispy and not as „wild“ as the extreme.

I think the extreme was overall easier to play with.

I’m excited for the speed, gonna test it next Friday
