Speed Pro 2022 reviews

Nice! How long have you been using the Speed Pro? What leave do you play at? Anything that makes you tempted to go back to ezone 98+ or look for other options?

This is making want to seriously try the speed pro lol
I currently am playing with both the Speed Pro and the Ezone 98+. Going back and forth isn't too difficult because of the similar launch angle. One thing I've noticed with the E98+ is even though the launch angle might be slightly higher... it's not as versatile to shaping shots. The launch is pretty locked in off the E98+ and I have a harder time varying my shot shape and height over the net. With the Speed Pro I find it much easier to go from a hard flat net skimmer to a rolling heavy topspin ball. It probably just requires more time from me to understand how to get the variation I want out of the E98+ since I haven't had time to really practice with it... just play matches.

Groundstrokes
- Speed Pro can give you any shot and has a great blend of power, control, spin and touch. Hard flat & fast, heavy looping spin, skidding slices... if you have the skills it will do anything you ask with no fuss and is pretty forgiving while still being precise.
- E98+ gives easier power and spin... but is a little less flexible in terms of shot variety (trajectory over the net). I have a much harder time varying my shots and spins. I can hit it well... fast and with spin... but my shot shape tends to have a lot less variation despite my attempt to vary it more. Might be the extra swing weight and/or power... or the way the frame flexes, but shots tend to be more linear in flight despite good spin. Every once in a while I can get a nice arcing ball that really jumps up off the court, but that seems much harder to achieve with the E98+. Speed Pro flexes more in the hoop so maybe that gives me the extra dwell time I use to play with height. E98+ hoop is much stiffer... and it seems I have to be more purposeful about really taking less of the ball (brush) to get an arcing topspin shot... as the ball comes off the string so much quicker.

Volleys
Both are great at net, but the extra reach of the E98+ helps and it has really nice touch. Speed Pro has better touch and better stability, but both volley really well.

Serve
Speed Pro is much improved on serve, but the E98+ is a clear winner here. The E98+ is an awesome serving stick with easy power, spin and directional control. Speed Pro provides better weight of shot on the serve, but you'll have to work harder to get the same results as the E98+. I hit more aces and unreturnable serves with the E98+. Speed Pro does have a little more precision for placement.

I'm tempted by the E98+ cuz it's so easy to serve with, the lighter weight and easy power is nice as I get older/lazier, and the extra reach helps. Speed Pro is more comfortable and is so good at everything that it's still my top pick.

I personally agree that it's a bit tougher to shape that ball w/ ezone 98+ (even though it still generates good spin ).
I'm sure someone with sound technique can do it, but there are other rackets that just make it easier.
Good to know Speed Pro has ability to shape ball better. That was actually one of my may concerns coming from ezone 98+. I thought it might be harder given the 18x20 pattern.

Is anyone still so in love with their Speeds that they'd pick up the new black cosmetic? I am, but IDK if I need a 4th one at $270 at that.
Curious how everyone is making out with their Speeds. Keppers / Switchers?
I finally found the string for it, in Ultra Cable mains. Another soft poly in crosses. Sonic Pro worked ok, but I think I liked Cream more. Didn't have them side by side to compare. So just short of committing to Ultra cable, I'm trying full bed of Grapple Snake M8 last, but I doubt it'll have enough grip for me. The love affair continues for me.

I’m tempted but will probably pick up a couple once they’re on sale and the new speed pros are out.

Tried a few other sticks since switching and still keep coming back to this one. It can do everything. Trying to dial in my string setup here too as I’m dealing with some arm issues (not frame related). Really enjoyed Hyper G soft 16L with Gosen OG Sheep 17 crosses the other day. I have a soft spot for poly tour rev, too. All at around 45lbs.

Not picking up black cosmetic but still enjoying the speed pro auxetic.
Haven't tried ultra cable but have been using Mayami Big Spin with great results. Crossed with ghost wire it works well. I've also been crossing it with HyperG soft.
Anyone know the difference between ultra cable and big spin?

Very different. Clash is much more muted, less consistent string bed, higher launch angle, more spin, and more power. I used the Speed Pro for a couple of years and got rid of it because I wanted more power so went with the PA23 and got golfer’s elbow, so now I am on to the Clash. The Clash with 20 crosses has a way more open pattern with the top string very high up and bottom string near the bridge.

How do you think the new Yonex Percept 100D will fare against Speed Pro? I have OHBH and mainly use EZTour 98 and VC 95, all courter but better volley/approach shot than my peers

The Clash has been one of the hardest racquets for me to learn to use well. There are a few shots that came naturally and quickly, which made me stick with it, but I really struggle with some shots that I think I hit well and they end up a foot long or 1/2 way up the net. I never appreciated the "feel" rating on tennis racquet reviews until I played with this one. That being said when I do hit the ball as intended, it's very comfortable, and I enjoy the hit. The Speed has far more feel. I would suggest anyone that wants to try this racquet needs to make a commitment to use it for at least a month or two. I have no played 30-40 hours with it, and I would say I am just starting to be more comfortable on all my shots, but I still have a way to go.

ive used the clash pro and id describe it is a comfortable power/spin racquet. it's more powerful than the Speed MP so definitely less controlled by the speed pro. i think you can really spin the ball well with the clash pro (even more so than the speed MP in my experience), but like others have said, it can be erratic at times. Speed MP still generates good spin and is more predictable. i gave my clash pro to a friend so i dont have it anymore but i feel like it could work well for a lot of people. the comfort tech did work for me for whatever it's worth.

I tried the Shift 315 (pro) before the Clash and it has some Clash characteristics, with lower launch angle and more power and stability than the Speed Pro. It is, however, way less arm friendly and less predictable string bed. I would find some discomfort, but tolerable. A friend who switched to the Shift 315 from a VCore 98 has to use gut to avoid elbow issues, and he hits with a lot of spin. My 2022 Speed Pros only had a SW of 318 and the Shift 315 had a SW of 330, so that may explain a lot of the power & stability differences.

I think the Shift 99 pro is the happy medium between the clash and the speed - the launch angle is almost the same as the speed pro.
Yeah but the Clash and Speed are arm friendly frames while the Shift is not and that has to be taken into consideration for some.

Does anyone have feedback on how Mayami Hit Pro plays in this racquet?

It looks like a couple posters tried it but I couldn’t find how they thought it played.

I'm looking forward to this frame but considering how happy I've been with he SP I'd hate to go down the rabbit hole again. Strings, lead, customization. It's been driving me crazy since my raquetaholic days. Not sure I'm fully recovered though...

You sold me on the Big Spin since I like Ultra Cable so much... only to find out they're sold out of sets. Any idea how I can get a set or 2 in the US?
PS: M8 has worked really well to the point I'm not pulling the trigger on UC reel.
Soft, good pocketing, not quite the grip of UC which can be erratic sometimes, especially on volleys. This is a nice medium where everything seems to work well. I think UC helps me control it a little better on all out swing without worrying about missing targets (as much).

I think Mayami’s only US distribution is direct via their website. When they were out of Tour Hex earlier this year. I think it was 2 months for it to restock.

In the For Sale forum there is a thread for string trades. Just post that you are looking for how ever many sets of Big Spin as well as what you have available to trade. I’d imagine you could work something out.

Where are you located? Also, have you tried Tour Sniper? I hear great things about it.

I have 2 SPs and played a couple matches with them so far and noticed the one with 1/4” grip size has uncomfortable vibration through the handle that gets to my hand at the bottom of the index finger. I had the same issue when I had the 360+ Extreme Tour with same size grip. I also had Auxetic Extreme tour and Radical MPs in 3/8” grip size without this shock and vibration. Bought my 1st Speed MP in 3/8” size and felt it was a little big for me to whip the swing. It was also under spec in SW. so I bought another in 1/4”. Even though the 1/4” is ON spec with weight balance and swingweight and easier on my wrist, this vibration is annoying. I strung it with Hyper G 17 at 48#. I wonder if anyone has similar experience and if it will dampen it by injecting Silicone into the handle, installing a better grip, etc.

Yes I found this in both the Gravity line (v2) and the current SP's. I ended up putting a Head Pro Damp on all my rackets and it instantly fixed the problem and removed all harshness. Easy fix but annoying if you play without a dampener.

I already use a dampener and overgrip. Since twist weight on it is pretty low at 12.8. I’ll be placing some lead at 3 and 9 to increase the TW and some weight in the handle to counter balance. Just don’t know if I’ll use a more comfortable replacement grip than the original or stick foam or Silicone inside. I don’t think the blue tac i normally use under the buttcap is enough to remove the shock.

I'm in NYC. I have a set of TSniper, but haven't strung it. Big spin was great but I didn't stick with it long. It was fairly soft with great bite/spin so much more predictable than square/pentagonal strings. Less powerful than Ultra Cable but not sure how much was the string vs shape. It felt UC just grips the ball and rips it back. I could be wrong about these physics though.
My TE is manageable but even playing soft polys and having to hit harder... and slices with a poly aren't going to cure it fully. Hence I made a leap to a completely new setup which I'm almost 100% happy with....

So I found a setup that I'm super happy with almost 100%
It took a while, I just heard new speeds coming out 2024 :/

Does anyone have a good recommendation on a nice soft poly cross for gut?? Ideally a tad stiffer than cream but much softer than Ghost Wire, that'll be more durable than cream. Slick, good tension maintenance a must for gut mains.

I'm using Gut mains Luxi or Klip coated 16g. @55lbs. Both felt undistinguishable TBH. BUT I didn't realize crosses made such a huge difference w gut.

I tested all crosses at 50# and use 19 string savers (so sparingly in sweet spot) which seem to enhance the strings I tried so far.
Cream = creamy and plush. Perfection (nearly)
Yonex Fire 16 - IDK ppl love it as cross but to me it didn't produce more spin. And you definitely stifen the setup up a ton. Setup fels like a poly. And not the softest poly either. Cut it out after 3 hits.
GhostWire 16 - Nice medium but compared to cream it's much harsher. Setup felt like super soft poly not not buttery. Haven't snapped Ghost yet so can't speak on it's durability.

I always cheapened out getting hooked on gut because it's pricey, I don't do my stringing and thought it'd break fast. I break polys fairly quickly, but no!... It's the cream that's snapping first. I restrung just the crosses on 2 frames and the cream broke a second time. Gut's frayed but I'll try one more time as an experiment.

Someone suggested Magic from String Project so I'll report on that. But it's coming from Italy so pricey and may take a week+.

A stringer on TT forums told me GW is by far most popular cross. But I sensed people want to control the gut setup. But I had no trouble controlling the Gut/Cream, but again a tad stiffer durable cream would be a dream come true.

I played H22s in 18x20 pre SpeedPro 22 and this setup translates perfectly in those frames. I know not the case with all frames, especially 16x19s.

I gave up on it because I could not figure out why a ball would sail wild on me - I now assume… inconsistent string bed. Because I haven’t had this issue once I switched to gravity pro / 97d / 100d. Very strange.

I love the racket but experiencing the same thing, balls are sailing on me. Might have to up the tension I’m playing hyper g 16L 50 LBS right now
check out these and read into the next page too

I strongly suggest you try the 97D 18x20 and 100D 18x19
I think it'll be a HUGE hit for you.

CONSISTENT STRING BEDS

gravity pro would work too, but you get more punch with the yonex frames, they are closer to your Speed Pro

Thanks I’ll check it out. Still determined to figure out the best setup w/ my speeds. I have used a lot of Yonex in the past and for some reason they don’t gel extremely well with my game. The 100d does look like an extremely good spec just might have to weight it up a little. I’m in a 5.5 doubles league and I feel that my ezone 98 and vcore pro 97 didn’t have the stability that the speed pro has in stock form.

Maybe give the Vcore 95 a try?

Had a stint with that in my college days- solid stick was just looking for a little more forgiveness on returns and defensive shots. Had another session with my Speed Pro and I think it has all the traits I am looking for just sometimes despite the 18x20 it can trampoline on me.. going to try black knight 1.28L 52M/50X hopefully to reign it in..

Finding low launch angle issues with Solinco Hyper G 16L @ 50 LBS. any string/tension recs? I should probably go thinner gauge but have never strung below 50 lbs, anyone have a a go to with this stick? Don’t want to give up on it because it overall is a such a solid stick

Are you finding a higher launch angle with anything else? I used Hyper G 18 ga @ 51 lbs, and it wasn't bad, but I find that this racquet has a really low launch angle compared to everything else that I have used. I got used to it by aiming higher, but when I would try something else I would hit with much more clearance.

Yeah I have noticed that as well. This racket feels close to holy grail for my game other than the launch angle and head grip length. This stick with an 18x19 or maybe 16x20 pattern and Yonex grip would stop my racket search indefinitely

Would recommend 17g hyper-g. Been in your same boat trying to shop around but my speed pro does it all too well. I’ve also found the new gamma AMP sapphire string 16g @ 52 lbs is unbelievable in this racket. Can let shots really rip and the ball finds its way back in the court

I didn't (but I am more of a flat hitter) - I actually enjoyed Hyper-G a lot in the Speed. Did you string it with any tension differential as I find that helps? Out of all the Solinco strings, I found Confidential worked best, its lower powered and more linear in its response so you might find that the launch angle might naturally fix itself with that string.

Smithie have you tried the newest speed pro ? Whats your take on it ? :)

Has anyone had success with a full multi setup? I looking to get a little more free power from behind the baseline. I’m a little worried that the 18x20 string bed with a multi won’t have enough spin potential.

Head velocity works great. Used in the demo and didn’t really notice a big difference in spin, was still hitting a heavy ball

Sorry for the delay I missed this first time round!. No I haven’t as reviews only talk about marginal changes and how it’s not worth the upgrade from the previous model. Plus on a personal level, I hate the new feel of the paint in my hand and much prefer the gloss finish. If anything I’m more likely to get the black edition of 2022 speed pro rather than get a 2024 one tbh (more so now that I’ve gone back to the Speed Pro over the Vcore 95).

For sure. It takes a little adjustment but a full bed of Triax is great. I tried Velocity MLT and X-One BiPhase but they were not durable for me.

Speed pro 2024 is coming also in black soon :)

Ye but if it’s that velvet paint I’ll pass. Have you used the 2024 version yet?
Seen pics, Not velvet, full gloss and it’s awesome. We are not likely to sell many more Oreos at the shop once this sexy beast drops in April. I have 5 1.0 Pros and a 2.0. New one is softer but other than that very close.

Hey guys -- so I traded for a used (but in excellent condition) 2022 Speed Pro recently and just started hitting with it. I demoed this stick last year and loved it; it had a nice beefy thud, good plow, great control, just a great all-around stick. But it felt a little too heavy to me at the time (I was coming from a very light 285g Pure Strike Team) and too low of a launch. So I chose to main a Blade 98 for six months or so, then moved on to a Pure Strike VS. I never measured the specs of the Speed Pro I demoed, but TW lists it at 310g unstrung static, and 329 SW strung.

When I got this new one a couple weeks ago, I noticed during my first hit that the weight I thought was cumbersome was gone. I figured it was because I had, over the past year, become accustomed to heavier rackets having graduated to the Blade and then the PSVS (which was also leaded-up to about 335g static). So I shrugged it off. But then I actually got it measured by my stringer:

326g strung
319 SW with Lynx Tour 1.25
317 SW with Silver 7 Tour 17 gauge

Those are crazy low swing weights, right? Has anyone encountered a SP this under spec before? The whole point of this stick is you can play it stock, but now I'm afraid I have to lead it up to beef up the SW to what I remember liking about it. I want it to hit a heavier ball than it does.
