Spider Silk, ruined?

Ok so I got my Gaucho Spider Silk and I was in the process of stringing it up when I noticed this:

I have been extremely careful and gentle while stringing. I've gently pulled through the whole string on the crosses and proceeded to only weave have the bed at a time...then I just saw this.

I went ahead and stopped stringing to see what you guys say....

If that split doesn't ruin the string job, stopping half way through the stringing process certainly will.

Well my mains are finished and tied off...I just started my crosses (2 rows) when I noticed it.

This is my first time stringing gut so I'm not sure what to do.

Might as well finish the string job now. Hopefully the synthetic stuff in the middle of the string holds up. And since you are only on the 2nd/3rd row it shouldn't pop unless you mishit badly.

Well the split is about half-way down the string so it's likely to be right in the middle of the string bed. I guess I'll just start the crosses over...

Thought about that. I usually do a hybrid with polys in the mains and sgut in the crosses. For the SS I just wanted to try a full bed so I have the SS in the mains already and didn't want to put poly in the crosses.

Update: I kept going and the tension pull on that piece seemed fine....so I'll let everyone know if it doesn't pan out.

Update #2:

Dammit!!! They broke on the stringer as I was close to finishing!

They didn't break on the fray in the above picture, but where I tied off my mains:

That's what happens with 2nd grade gut strings. it happens, you should ask for a refund or another set of string.

put sg in the cross

My Global Gut has unwoven like that before... I just wind it back as I put it in the racket, and I've never had it come back to bite me. Yet.

I just did my first racquet with Spider Silk for a customer - a hybird with PSGwD in the crosses. It went pretty well and looks good but I did notice that Spider Silk tends to squish much easier than say Tonic natural gut. After I was finished I exposed the inside of the string and you can clearly see 3 twisted rope like strands that are not bonded in anyway. It's like Spider Silk is hollow with 3 strands floating down the middle of a pipe - no wonder it squishes so easilly.

I have some good pics but what is the fastest way to get pics up on this forum?

I took my pics with my iPhone4, emailed them to myself and uploaded to my flickr account. Took about 3 minutes total.
