Spin Potential Charts

It seems nowadays the spin potential chart is getting crazier and crazier. Waaaaaaay back then when i saw Tour Bite and BHB7 measured at the 6.0+ for spin potential i thought that was already insane, but today i just saw that Diadem strings are taking the high 8.5+ spot and Technifibre's Black Code 4S 17 topping out at 9.8 for spin potential :confused:. The future of strings are definitely "revolving" in a insane direction.

I don't subscribe to these numbers. The string which suits your technique will produce the most spin. For me that is gut mains and revolve crosses.

Most definitely that spin is all about technique and having a certain string set up that suits to the players needs, no arguing in that! And of course numbers don't always mean anything at all just like in a TW Review of a product. Right now i'm just quite amazed as how the numbers just keep going up and up and up as time goes by.

Agassi has rightly pointed out that all that spin now sometimes makes shots sit up in a bad way... spin potential itself isnt the only important #. I kinda wish there was a rating for ability to go from flat to spin. Not certain how to quantify that though.

This actually makes sense to me. I've been using Diadem solstice for a few months now (pre-TW) and my regular hitting partners immediately noticed the extra spin, which was a first. I knew it would be at least 6.0. It's a soft poly so not for everyone, but I think these super spin strings are only going to gain in popularity.

the black code 4s 1.25mm is about to get an outing within the next couple of weeks but i have played the tour bite (regular) in 1.20 and 1.25 as well as the bhb7 in both 16 and 17 gauge and while for me the tour bites, specially the 1.20 have been really spinning the ball, the bhb7 was not reflecting by any means that high rating it got - in fact, i was getting better spin and control with the bh-blue rough. the bhb7 played just soft and lame for me.

one thing these spin numbers do not take into account at all and it is a "real world problem" is that some of these figures are generated by a profile that is most likely to be gone after 30 minutes of hitting - and this applies to all "soft" version. so far, the only strings that basically kept their profiles for longer than a hitting session with me have been the "regular" polys, the soft ones, even tour bite soft, were flattened out within one session.
