Split Step on wall?

I always split step when I practice (real court) and competing but I wasn't too sure if you're supposed to split step when hitting on the wall.

So, are you supposed to split step once the ball bounces off the wall or don't split step at all? I kinda find it pointless because when you're hitting on the wall, you know exactly where the ball is going to go. Am I not right?

Don't get into the habit of standing in one place flat footed when balls are in play. Split when the ball hits the wall, if you are hitting against a machine never let your feet stay still.

It is the same thing as me saying that I don't have to hit good forehands and backhands against the wall, because they are just going to come back, no matter what because I am not playing a real person.

You are not supposed to think about split stepping, it is supposed to be like breathing. If the ball is in play, your feet are moving. No point in practicing bad footwork.

I agree that it is tough to know when to split/where to go, against a wall/machine, but watch the video of me hitting against the machine for an idea of what I am talking about.

Ok, thanks for that. I'll try doing that next time I play on the wall.

"How you train is how you fight." It's a good habit to keep good form even when htting against the wall , ball machine, drilling etc. A great tennis coach (Welby Van Horn) used to tell us when we were kids and he made us repeat it: "Practice makes perfect right? We would say "NO!, The right practice makes perfect!"
