It was an amazing match to watch -- high quality all around. Mario did is part, but Ivan is playing great tennis. Almost Federer-like -- dare I say it. *lol*
Here's the bit I posted on the Nadal site about it:
Yeah, it was disappointing. But what a match! Great tennis from all players.
And hats off to Croatia for playing such a great match. Ivan's backhand down the line was driving me nuts --not to mention his serves.
Did I mention before that I think Ivan Ljubicic is Top 5 material? I'm sure he's going to give Andy fits and starts tomorrow.
The Bryans got off to a great start. And we had a lot of fun cheering. On our side, with the Netheads, we'd yell "Bob," and the other side of the stadium, where the Bryan Bunch was sitting would yell "Mike." And later, the whole stadium caught on. So we were doing "Bob" and "Mike" back at each other.
The key was the second set tiebreak. If USA could have won that, it would have made a huge difference. The USTA directed us to cheer after every point, and we did. They didn't feel the crowd were giving the Bryans enough energy.
So we did -- and thank goodness for our drummer. But it wasn't enough. In fact, we kept trying to pump up the crowd, which seemed deflated once they saw it wasn't going to be an easy win.
Andy was doing more cheerleading than most. At times, he was standing up on his chair cheering. I can see why -- he doesn't want this all to ride on his match against Ivan tomorrow.
Still, it was a great match -- high quality doubles. It is a shame we don't get to see more matches like this on TV. Although I would have preferred the "W."
Oh, forgot to mention that Kevin Costner was in the crowd yesterday -- front row, sitting with his wife. He was just a few rows ahead of us. Man, he is not the guy from Robin Hood, that's for sure. *lol*
I really wonder whether Andy can beat Ivan tomorrow. It's going to be tough. But if he gets through, let's hope Andre gets fired up for the fifth rubber. Coz Mario is playing very well.
Go USA!!!
