Sponsorship Changes for 2023

Iga and Ben are both going to ON, it might be Miami or the French. It’s like when RF’s deal with Nike expired in March of 2018. He continued wearing it until Wimbledon when they made splash wearing Uniqlo. Given the investors in ON, I’m sure they want to make ON’s first clothing appearance a big splash.

Course, they must have tennis clothes, has no sense that ON have tennis shoes and not have tennis clothes

garin wearing full nike in the match against ruud

Why is he not wearing Multiplier socks? Did he buy the kit himself?

Seems like Lacoste dropped Teichmann? She doesn’t tag them anymore on IG and didn’t do any photoshoot with them in Miami despite being there.

Not a sponsorship change, just a racquet change. She bought the racquets from TW.
Strange that a high profile player like Collins would have to buy TF racquets. I know sponsorships are tight and getting tighter, but that's strange.

Watch the TW podcast about Indian Wells, Michelle gives a recap of how the whole thing went down.

Does Nike have 1 overarching tennis sponsorship department or do different countries such as Chile have a Nike Chile who can sponsor players? I'd imagine it's just the 1 sponsorship team as they've cut so many players and we would probably see all kinds of random players wearing Nike. I wonder if they genuinely see potential in him given he can play on clay and grass or whether he has agreed some kind of results based sponsorship/maybe he's just kitting himself in full Nike as he can't find a sponsor/is waiting for a good offer? His results bar Wimbledon last year have been poor if I remember correctly. I thought he would be Ruud level on clay as a few years ago it looked like Ruud, Berrettini and Garin were all on a similar trajectory.
Supposedly in skateboarding, some select pros (eg Nyjah Huston) have contracts directly with Nike, whereas others are sponsored by the skateboarding subsidiary Nike SB.

How does it work for Federer to be sponsored by Uniqlo (who make tennis clothing) and then have likely used some of that Uniqlo income to buy in to ON, who now compete with Uniqlo in the tennis clothing market?

That’s where you are wrong. Roger is sponsored by Uniqlo to wear their clothes. Uniqlo does not sell any tennis clothes worn by him because he is retired. Roger actually wears their clothes all the time which can be purchased. Uniqlo is not really a sports apparel company. Roger has many sponsors whose money he used to buy into ON and be their brand ambassador.

Nike SB is branding for a product line within Nike, not a separate subsidiary company. Similar to "Nike Court" being a branding choice for tennis. If a skateboarder has a Nike SB endorsement contract, it's directly with Nike since they are one and the same.

The Jordan brand is an interesting case. Jordan employees are Nike employees, and the entire operation runs out of the Nike headquarters. However, there are athletes that have endorsement contracts to wear the Jordan brand exclusively, but their contracts are still with Nike since the Jordan brand is not a separate company. Perhaps that is the type of arrangement you might be thinking of?

A true Nike subsidiary would be Converse, which is a company that Nike acquired, and that operates under the Nike corporate umbrella as a wholly-owned entity.

This is a list of Nike's subsidiaries: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320187/000119312510161874/dex21.htm
As you'll see they have subsidiaries in many different countries around the world - they would have budgets for marketing etc... within their purview and if Nike Chile wanted to sponsor Garin within that budget (it would probably be smaller), that would be fine, you'll see lots of juniors/smaller players etc... sponsored by their home countries subsidiary. The bigger players will be sponsored with big deals by head office, but someone like Garin could definitely have a smaller deal with Nike Chile etc...

I don't think she has a clothing or shoe deal either.

it’s weird because she’s with IMG and they’re pretty good at securing contracts. But maybe she’s asking for much more than what any brand is preparing to offer her considering she’s not like a huge name in tennis and doesn’t even have a top ranking behind her anymore.

Um, she doesn't have a top ranking anymore because she was pregnant for most of the last year lol. The fact that she's the most marketable Ukrainian, a new mom, and on the comeback trail back to the top ten will bode well for her.

Svitolina is wearing adidas shoes with nike clothes right now on tennis channel at Charleston open She looks pretty good for just having a kid. congrats to her and props for getting back into shape.

Yeah as far as I understand, NikeSB contracts some minor pros, but the really big name pros like Nyjah Huston are contracted directly with Nike head office.

Op was talking about Danielle collins

Is peyton stearns(newly top 100) not with Nike anymore? Her last insta post, she is not really nike clothes(disregard hat and shoes). I think she was also wearing Adidas a couple of times during the IW.

Doubt it. Her IG also shows her using RG range for a tournament 10w ago? Surely she'd be using the US Open range at earliest rather than RG.... So very doubtful she was with Nike as of recently.
EDIT: She was wearing 2021 AUS OPEN for Indian Wells last year and for a tournament 26w ago, so definitely not.
