surprising given his commercial potential & them tapping him as the main endorsee for the GP line
Since his results are getting worse every year and the unfortunate comments off the court and behavior in... Maybe Kyrgios is enough, Pericard might take his spot for the next few years.
But is surprising they dropped Tiafoe and keep Shapovalov for this long with the results he have, might be another miss from Nike after dropping Fritz and the considerable rise in rankings he have after he signed with Boss

Since Frances is still wearing a Nike shirt, shorts, and socks, it makes me wonder if he did a bone headed move like forgetting his shoes and having to use a pair of NB borrowed at the facility?

On the other hand, one of the ways we knew Fritz was on the way out from Nike was because we saw him wearing different shoes from Head and Asics in practices from pics that were posted to social media.

Of course it's possible that Nike decided to move on. I'd be surprised since Tiafoe has done pretty well in the Swoosh. However, endorsement budgets are not unlimited, and they could choose to invest in other players. Also, as far as I know, Nike contracts usually have first right of refusal built in, which means that they have the ability to match an offer from a competitor and keep a player. That means if Frances came to them with an offer he got from NB, they would decide whether it's worth it to keep him or not. So sometimes, it's not a matter of "dropping" a player as much as it is letting them go to greener ($$$) pastures (which is what happened with Federer, apparently).

I guess we won't know for sure until Tiafoe shows up in Australia or Indian Wells with a new kit. Perhaps Frances just wants to be like Tommy Paul, sporting NB and a VCORE?

Perhaps the situation was similar to the move Giannis did earlier this week?

Giannis has his own signature shoe line with Nike, but that didn't stop him from happily accepting a pair of custom Adidas from Damian Lillard... filmed on social media no less!

"Free shoes is free shoes."

I'm sure Nike Sports Marketing was thrilled.

Always happens. Last year Fokina was still wearing Diadora while testing his new adidas shoes. Same applies here.

Bummer. I remember when their roster had so much promise. A lot of great names falling off. I always thought Shelton going to On was baffling, another name that Nike should have scooped up

Shelton is managed by TEAM8, which is in turn owned by Federer and Tony Godsick, and since Fed has a pretty solid stake in ON these days it's no surprise they snapped him up.

I think they just regret losing Zverev (Partially) and now Fritz.
But FAA is losing a lot of ground now, as mentioned with Tiafoe, results are haunting but considering Nike is an USA based company it's difficult to understand why they prefer to keep Shapo than Tiafoe.
On the other hand Nike have 2 big names that are present and future of the sport so maybe they are takikg their time to cherry pic where they are spending the money

They have Osaka again. They dont need Foe for the GP line
Ya I think we all know about osakas ties to the gp line, but not sure that’s driving many consumer decisions. All of her colorways seem to get massive price breaks. I think they need some ATP endorsement juice (they tried with sinner), so interested to see who is anointed next to carry that torch

Alltime bonehead Nike move. They should've paid Fed whatever he wanted. You do not let a legend like him walk. The Michael Jordan of tennis. Marketing 101.

I personally agree and think Nike could have made a different decision with Federer, who is an icon in tennis.

On the flip side, it seemed very disloyal on Federer's part to spurn Nike after a 25+ year relationship and all the money they gave him (plus the sportswear line they were creating for him) to jump over to a discount Japanese brand that has nowhere near the same marketing reach, recognition, or distribution channels in order to grab some more cash. Fed was already one of the the richest players on Earth. And then, to pour more salt into the wound, Federer took some of that Uniqlo money and invested heavily into On, a direct competitor to Nike in the running category. I can't think of a bigger "eff you" to a brand that took care of him for a quarter century.

At least Nike can feel good that every single major tournament Fed won in his career was in the Swoosh. That's the brand people associate with him. Roger won nothing wearing Uniqlo and On.

I also think that, amazing though it may be, Fed didn't do all his homework on UQ. While he had their financials scrutinized to death, did he really know just how poorly they perform when it comes to rolling out Fed merch? Lack of marketing, zero retail presence. Never in stores, nothing at all online. Go ahead and search UQ for any Fed merch. Zero. A slap in the face to the fan base. How can he think that's the right way to market himself? Three more years supposedly left in the deal? Dump them and put out a high end RF gear line with On. Nice clean minimalist lines.

What I like about Uniqlo is that they are the only sponsor with normal tennis equipment without any additional unnecessary applications on it.

They did a great job with Novak and Federer. All their collections are so simple and perfect (one color for the t-shirt, another for the shorts and that's it, no unnecessary lines and applications that spoil it).

Lacoste (until recently) did a disastrous job with Novak and all those unnecessary additions, a mixture of colors, lines and square that simply don't belong there (they improved this season and reduced it to a minimum). It's the same case with Nadal, I don't know who can wear that mixture of flashy colors and lines.

So, as far as the visual experience is concerned, Uniqlo does the best job (I have no idea what the quality of their equipment is like).

Dimitrov was on a podcast earlier this year where he said he's working with Lacoste to create a shoe for him

So weird he tried Asics last year amidst that news. Hard to tell what’s going on there, he was super coy about the working relationship with Nike on that pod
