Fred Perry's first slam was the USO. He won it on the 10th of September in 5 sets. He was seeded 3rd and beat the 2nd seed - who was also the reigning AO Champion.

The man Perry beat in the final, Jack Crawford, was going for the Grand Slam, having won the Australian, French and Wimbledon that year. Crawford led by 2 sets to 1, but won just 1 game in the last 2 sets.
