This is just one year for one university, but I have seen similar numbers from other schools before. Fact is, tennis is one of the cheapest sports for a university to sponsor. The small number of athletes, the low level of facility upkeep, and lower equipment costs make it one of the most budget-friendly college sports.

This shows that schools should not cut tennis recklessly, as they often do.

Tennis revenues are among the lowest of any sport. If college tennis revenue could be increased just a little bit, then the sport could actually get close to almost breaking even, thanks to the low cost of operation.

Golf course maintenance primarily, and equipment and travel budget as secondary concerns.

Yeah tennis facility upkeep is probably the lowest of any sport. Just have to blow pollen off the courts and resurface them once every few years. Occasionally might have to replace a net.

But don’t have to worry about grass maintenance
