SPPP 17L -or- Lux BB ALU Power 16L???...(as my first-EVER Poly stringjob)

I just received my TW order that contains:

- Signum Pro Poly-Plasma 17L (1.18mm)
- Lux Big Banger ALU Power 16L (1.25mm)
- Babolat VS Natural Gut 16 Touch (1.30mm)

I've never tried polys before in my life! I currently use multis and natural gut (full string jobs). I also recently tried out Gosen OG Sheep Micro 16 and didn't like it (probably because I compared it to my high-end multis and natural gut).

WHICH POLY DO YOU RECOMMEND AS MY FIRST POLY STRINGJOB AND WHY? ...and what tension do you think?

Here are some additional details:
- I use a Volkl BB10 and am enjoying my latest string jobs at 55 lbs, which is the middle of the recommended range (+-5lbs).
- From reading threads, I am slightly concerned that the polys will feel like a board, so if anything, I'd rather air on the "lighter" side for tension. The packaging for the Lux says it is recommended to string AT LEAST 10% less than usual strings. -- This would bring me to 49.5 lbs. So do I even go a little bit lower since it says "at least"?!
- Should I apply the same logic to the SPPP? I've read other threads that say 'yes, the general poly logic of 10% less tension applies accross the board'. So, if you recommend the SPPP, then go with 49.5 lbs or even slightly less?
- I play in two USTA leagues - one is a 4.0 and the other is 4.5 (not sure if you need that info)
- I COULD do a hybrid string job with the VS (or with a synthetic or multi that I have laying around), but I really want to get the full feeling of a poly to see what all the hype is about so I presume a full poly job is the way to go, first.
- The gauge of SPPP (1.18mm) is thinner than the Lux (1.25mm) that I bought. Keep this in mind when you recommend one over the other for my first poly test...
- I typically use 16g string at about 1.30mm but I recently put on some Gamma Revelation 17 (1.27mm) which has great feel/power. I once tried VS 17 (1.25mm) and it broke after a week of playing. I wasn't so happy about that, but now that I string my own racquets, the cost is not as significant so I'll probably be trying out more 17g strings.

I had the stringer string my Wilson Nblade 98 up with Lux ALU Power 16L at 50 lbs and his tension reader read 56lbs right when he took the measurement after stringing it. He said it was attributed to the tight string pattern and the fact that poly strings are stiffer than usual strings. It played well for what I wanted out of it, I don't know if you'll feel like it's a boardy feel but in my experience using syn gut vs poly, polys definitely have less of a cupping feel which is great for me because too much cupping = a trampoline feel I don't like.

Id try ALU first: when fresh its simply the best poly out there. Insane spin, good power and a great feel. Id string at 50 as ALU is very stiff. If I was to use poly it would be ALU but every poly just tears my arm apart after a few sets.

pow: My string pattern is pretty open: 16x18 in a 100sq in head. I actually think I'd like a trampoline feel, provided I can generate enough spin to keep it in!

P.S. After typing up this thread, I realized that I purchased the wrong string. I meant to buy Lux ALU Power ROUGH but I must have clicked on the wrong string when I ordered it. I really like textured strings (which gives the impression that it's "gripping" the ball) so I'm a little bummed.. I guess I'm probably leaning toward the SPPP as my first stringjob but I'll wait to hear what others have to say.

The best thing to do would be to string up with both strings at the same time, assuming that you have two identical rackets. That way you could test them and be able to compare them in real time, without trying to remember what the first one felt like 3 weeks ago and trying to compare that memory to the new fresh string job. Additionally, you would be able to get a good feel for how they drop tension over time and how that drop affects playability.

SPPP is softer than Lux and, if it were me, i'd sting it at 52 lbs and the Lux at 50.

Looking forward to hearing you're review of these strings and overview of first poly experience.

I read that the gripping from textured strings have a really minimal effect and barely shows enough difference to conclude their effectiveness. So don't be too bummed out. Personally, I don't think it would matter too much which you do first, but I would lean towards the ALU because I've had such great experiences with it. I think I would fear stringing it too tight over stringing it loose because a board for a racquet is not pleasant at all but it seriously does not take a poly string to get a board effect, my friend had multis strung up really high and they weren't too pleasant for me either.

As far as the, string 10% less for polys goes. I've heard of many people that have strung their racquets at the same, or nearly the same tension. If you don't like the strings, when you test it out, the problem might not be them, but the tension.

-- 2 votes for trying the LUX ALU (1.25mm) first.

-- 1 vote for trying both on two of my racquets (@ same time)

(I appreicate the idea of trying both at same time. But I only have 3 sticks, and with some upcoming league matches, I'm a little too concerned that I may not like either setup - and I need at least two reliable sticks).

Any other comments on the strings themselves, or which I should try first as my first poly stringjob ever? .......Lux ALU (1.25mm) versus SPPP (1.18mm)

I'll probably be stringing one up later today or tomorrow...
