Stating the obvious, but the hotter player in this tournament is clearly Medvedev. Hasn't dropped a set in his three matches, whereas Coric has dropped a set in each of his three matches.

Congrats to Medvedev on winning his 6th ATP title, 4th at 250 level and 3rd this season. He becomes the 1st Russian player to win the St.Petersburg title since Youzhny in 2004.

Please stop overestimating novak always. Aside from the Australian open last 2 matches he has been pretty ordinary by his lofty standards this whole year. Nadal has been far more consistent and in the last few months even med has been more consistent than djokovic.
Did you forget Novak won 2 slams this year and had won 4 of the last 6 slams. How can anyone overrate Novak?
2010 to 2019 has been his decade. He has heavily dominated Tennis and Fedal.
It is inevitable that he will be the slam leader by far as he has 3 plus years of prime tennis remaining.

Please take a look at the recent results. What happened in 2011 does not matter. He was very scrappy by his standards at rg,wimby and uso. And outside of slams he is having one of his worst years on tour. Again I am comparing with his lofty standards. He has not yet won a masters 1000 on hard this year which is very rare.

Good post. I don't disagree with you.
But look he is NOT concentrating on masters at all. He is fully focused on slams. His biggest motivation is just the slam record. For that reason I feel he will again have a multi slam winner next year. Novak is just peaking at slams. He is very very hungry for the record. As he gets older, he doesn't care about smaller events.

can't find the quote but Med credits proposing to his wife as the reason he's on the big roll....sweet

why did Coric keep coming to net even after getting passed every single time :). Was he trying to take a page out of Rafa's book from USO final chapter?
He probably was gassed from three straight matches that went somewhere into a third set so why try to duke it out from the baseline and delay the inevitable??? He had played about 2 hours more in his three matches than mdvdv.
