Stalling tactics.

OK. Let's get it out in the open. What's with the Djokovic stalling tactics? The rule is 25 seconds. He was well over 25 sec multiple times. Commentators remarked many times. Many times. Umpire was too lenient. He gave just one time violation at the end of second set. He was also taking a long time between 1st and 2nd serves.

Twenty years ago, I was playing an open tournament, at age 30.

My opponent was age 21. He became irritated that I was sitting down on the bench for the entire 90 seconds at each changeover, instead of just playing without delay.

He even asked my why I sat down. I told him I like to re-gather my thoughts to focus. But the real answer is that at age 30, I was already dealing with niggling injuries, including knee tendinitis. Playing slower kept my knee healthier. I suspect Nole was deliberately playing slower because it favors the old guy.

Nadal fans are out in full force today and actually complaining about someone going over time? He got called for the time violation in the 2nd set and didn't go over again. It was obviously because of the wind. I think you need to be reminded it's still 23 > 22. o_O Nothing has changed in the grand scheme of things.

Don't see it as a big deal - Novak and Rafa both regularly went over the time limit. Maybe some of the less successful players should of tried it.

Nadal is ahead in the slam race again after yesterday, didn't you know? It's 23-22 in the other direction.

LOL. What is their deal? Always doing too much, just like AO 2022 last year which came back to bite them in the ass. Need to pump their brakes. Djokovic is still greater.

They don't learn.

They were out in full force in the Djokovic-Sinner quarter final thread last year getting ready to celebrate and party. That blew up badly, Djokovic comes back to win Wimbledon, Nadal gets injured and forced to pull out Then gloating that Djokovic isn't playing USO and Nadal owns the slam, only for him to be taken out by Tiafoe of all people, basically doing in his chances to prevent Djokovic from catching him. Then were hoping the three year ban to enter Australia would stay in place, only to see Djokovic not only come back but wreck everyone on his way to catching Nadal, while Nadal unfortunately for him, suffered a big injury, loses to McDonalds and is forced to sit out the rest of the year. Then the celebrating on how Djokovic was sucking during clay season, and hoping Nadal was going to come back to win RG and take the lead, only for their worst possible scenario coming true, and Djokovic breaking the record on Nadal's own court and getting a triple career slam to boot.

But yesterday was a victory for Nadal, tennis was saved and Nadal was given the slam record again. All is good. LOL :giggle:

Yea they never learn. Always gloating and overplaying their hand. They need to come back to reality and remember who leads the Slam race, despite the dq at USO 2020, Wimbledon 2020 cancelled, and Djokovic banned from USO and AO 2022. All these things in Nadal's favor and who's in front now? Trying to twist the knife because of a close Djokovic loss yesterday at Wimbledon, which is something of a rarity these days, shows how bitter they are.

Well when your GOAT dreams were derailed in such a way, and you have been watching your hero's rival win virtually everything he entered, I mean, W 2022, YEC 2022, AO 2023, RG 2023, and break all time weeks at world number one male or female, you are going to be starving.....the bitterness is going to be very very high. So any defeat of Djokovic needs to be celebrated.

Newsflash though, Djokovic still has all the records. Nothing changed. What was everyone expecting, that Djokovic was never going to lose ever again? Remember the partying after USO 2021, and then all the gloating from there all the way to W 2022? You think they would learn, but they don't. Alcaraz won Wimbledon, not Nadal. If anything, Alcaraz is challenging Nadal's position as best youngest phenom of this century.

Yea Djokovic lost to someone finally, someone young enough to be his son. Let's all celebrate and have a party. Lol. The fact that it takes someone like this to do it and who is the the next big thing, and it took 5 sets and Djokovic not up to his normal standards, speaks to Djokovic's greatness. But no, let's throw dirt on Djokovic instead and not celebrate Alcaraz's amazing performance yesterday. Have to love those classy Nadal fans.

Djokovic has the records and he doesn't look like he's done. Still has chance to have a 3 Slam season, and a chance next year if he stays in this physical shape and is playing at a high level. Yea at this rate, Alcaraz will easily win more Wimbledons than Nadal so what do they have to celebrate really? Lol.

We totally accept that Nadal used to be slow. But that was before the shot clock was brought in. This was a clear abuse of shot clock and the umpire did not have the balls to call it for two sets. He did at the end and still Djokovic complained.

Oh please. Used to be slow? What did Nadal do at AO 2023, this year, about the time clock? He went into a rant with the umpire. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Yes. It's a pattern with both Djokovic and Nadal tbh. They will both start to stall and slow things down to disrupt momentum and it only happens when they are break point down or important points so don't give me the ocd excuse. It's strategic plain and simple and they get away with it 99% of the time. He even tried to take longer coming back from the bathroom break which I am sure was well thought out and strategic as well.

Djokovic lost an epic five set final to someone who will be an ATG of this sport. Who did Nadal lose to in his last two slams? Everyone loses matches, that is sport.

If they actually think Djokovic is done winning slams for certain, especially considering he won the last three he was in, was three games away from winning four in a row, then I guess they will never learn. Because if you haven't learnt your lesson by now, you never will. He outright owns the slam record, that didn't change heading into Wimbledon and didn't change heading out. He will be back.

You think Djokovic would've taken a bathroom break if he was leading? When he is leading and winning the match, suddenly the serve speed is normal too.

It's a joke. What's the point of having the rule if breaches don't get punished? I'm not aware that the rule is 10 breaches equals 1 time violation. It's always annoyed me how many times Djokovic bounces the ball before serving. Totally unnecessary.

It's almost like... the "establishment" that has been secretly working against him all along...

GOAThood is a quality, not a statistic.

Numbers mean nothing without subjective context. Imagine if Djokovic had to face 20 y/o Alcaraz in 2013 rather than 2023. That's what Federer had to face with Nadal. Instead, Djokovic got Nishikori, Raonic, and Dimitrov LOL

Yes, Djokovic takes bathroom breaks as well if he's leading. Did it at AO 2023 and Wimbledon 2021 as well, just off the top of my head.

It's a mental battle to try to disrupt momentum. It's not good sportsmanship which is why Federer is loved universally for his fair play.

Just his usual tactics. He thought that if he waited around long enough, Alcaraz would crumble like all the mentally-weak mugs who gifted him slams over the years.

True. I think we would all agree, it is Djokovic's bread-and-butter, so it was no surprise to see him try it when the kid was running him ragged all over the court. That's why he had to break out the toilet break, too.

"Players are permitted to use the toilet during a tennis match. The time limit is 3 minutes from the moment the player enters the toilet and can be extended by 2 further minutes if the player changes clothing. Players may have 1 toilet break each in a 3-set match and 2 breaks in a 5-set match."

I'm not even criticising him for toilet breaks. It's the ball bouncing and time wasting. It was ridiculous.

He takes the time he wants to take to get ready. No reason to assume it is stalling, as in to throw off the opponent, often it is just when the pressure is on he takes more time to compose himself. There are numerous other players that do the same - Nadal, Rune, Tsitsipas.

Not a Nadal fan here, just a fan of tennis played at a decent pace. My main criticism of Nads and Nole is the stalling between points, fake MTO's, forever bathroom breaks, etc.

I get it it's *sort of* within the rules and 'if you're not cheating you're not trying' blah blah but as a viewer it is torture.

Hopefully Carlos will not succumb to the teachings of Nads and Nole and keep playing at a sporting pace, AND I REALLY HOPE the younger players coming up emulate Carlos and not the two aforementioned time wasters.

PS: thank god for the :30 second ff button (but you're screwed if watching live).

It was funny they showed that both Joker and Tiny had played the same amount heading into the final; no, they need to start deducting the 1-2 hours of ball bouncing - that's not playing.

Unfortunately, the savior came one slam too late, and next year at RG, when Nadal steps foot back in Paris at 38 years of age, he is going be seeing a 21 year old peaking Alcaraz....it doesn't take much for the savior to become the slayer. ;)

So 5 minutes to change clothes from the moment you enter the room, and it takes over a minute to walk from Centre Court to the room so he was within the rule.

Yet you don't have a problem with Nadal time wasting right? Of course you don't.

This was blatant and went on for two sets.
