Murray - 8. Truly shows what all that his consistency and deep slam runs means. A guy who has made 20+ Slam semis should have got better numbers. But you know when you've WTA serve and Average forehand, this is the best you can manage. Actually credit to him for being opportunist - he went deep whenever draw permitted.

In Murray's case, you also have to factor in that he only played 6 different top 5 players at slams in his entire career. Other than the Fed/Nadal/Djokovic he played Wawrinka, Ferrer and Roddick.

Worth pointing out that Wawrinka benefits in this stats from not being in the top 5 for much of his career. Both in terms of having variety of opponent and by the fact the times people beat him it did not count towards that stat in their favour.

Murray has a very good first serve but not 2nd. He improved his 2nd serve on grass in 2012-13 and 2015-16.
Murray FH is decent/good but not very good or great.

Murray was bombing second serves down at 130mph in 2012-2013 such improvement

It was much better in 2016 to be fair but otherwise its always been pedestrian.

What's more amazing is that Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are all exactly at 29.
What's more amazing is the fact that this Lew thread might be the first serious one for the next few days.
What's more amazing is that Lew2 is hyping up someone that has dealt his boy some timely defeats
What's more amazing is that Andy-atg-Murray's below Stan.

Murray 2nd serve improvement was noted more in 2012/2015-2016. 2013 final vs Djokovic the serving was not very good now i think of it.
All of shots are above slightly to much above average apart from the 2nd serve and which is quite inconsistent i have to say.

His second serve was weak in 2012 still man. Don't think there was much improvement in 2015 either.

And overall that's probably fair, forehand and second serve are very key shots though, so averaging out as below average on those shots isn't good. Obviously ATG backhand and return mitigates that to a large degree

Murray FH esp in 2012-mid 2013 with Lendl was not below average. At times he is a bit passive with it at times but he really took it to Federer/Djokovic in that time span.
I recall Murray 2nd serve consistency improving with Lendl at times maybe i am wrong.
But most non ATGs have some kind of weakness anyway that lets them down.....

I said average e.g. his second serve and forehand combined.

I checked some of Murray's average second serve speeds in big matches in 2012-2013/2015, mostly barely above or under 130 kph e.g. 80 mph. Some slightly bigger ones like Wimby 2012 final but yeah.
Checking now. So it seems that 2015-2016 was the improvement in the 2nd serve but 2012-2013 in the FH/aggressiveness and mental toughness on the big points.

I felt Murray served very well in the Wimbledon 2012 final he actually out-aced Federer even though quite a bit of that was due to the first serve.

Yeah, Murray bombed a lot of big first serves, including under pressure when the momentum was against him. Obviously there's a difference in their returns at stage of their careers too.

I'm surprised Murray got away with his second serve as well as he did tbh. Feel like Djokovic really could have done more damage there.

I don't see why so many are intent on making this a Wawrinka vs Murray comparision. It is a super impressive stat for Stat and that should just be recognized point blank, one of the most surprising 3 slam winners in history. Good for him. That isn't even considering his many 5 set epics in defeat. Guy is a big match player.

Murray beat Djokovic in Olympics 2012 in a high quality match actually a few weeks later. I think 2012 Djokovic at Wimbeldon would like the roof closing though and Djokovic is a better indoor player.
Federer had 11 BPs in the 3 sets he returned better in so not bad. It was only the 2nd which he didn’t return to well until the end maybe that’s why.

Every hero needs a villain.
Better the villains better the heroes.

So it's very much in line with Lew's agenda to hype Wawrinka. Just like he does Andeh, Old Fraud, Old Cãpy.

Wrong stats. Federer should have many more wins, with all the times he beat himself.

I meant generally but yeah, that was a good match. Would have liked to see that Murray play Delpo or Fed from the SF.

Would be interesting to see Del Potro against Murray actually as Del Potro he is underlooked on grass. He gave a in-form Nadal in Wimbledon 2011/2018 a hell of a match twice and then Djokovic in 2013.

Federer was bad in the final he would give a much better fight. I felt he was worse than Wimbledon 2012 even before the final though.

Hard to say, Fed looked really good indoord at Wimby in 2012 - maybe the Del Potro match was there with some of his earlier matches at the Championships? Fed obviously struggled with Benneteau and dropped a set to Malisse (with some back pain) so he was far from flawless there. Agree on Del Potro, he's been apart of some classic matches on grass - I remember Ferrer taking him apart at Wimby in 2012 so I was little surprised to see him push Fed so hard in the Olympics TBH.

. I know Fed had back issues in 4th round. He was great in the first 2 rounds and the last 3 rounds though. Don’t know what happened in the 3rd but he nearly lost some say he had back issues in this one too. I would say the Del Potro match was more impressive than the 2 matches you mentioned it was a great match.

Del Potro wasn’t very consistent on grass but had a high peak. Ferrer played quite well himself in 2012 on grass as well which is rare.
