Stanford Men

Damn Nishesh is not having a good time in the pros. Wonder if he wishes he stayed with the team for another year
Officially declared pro status December 2024, made the top 100 as a teenager, has cleared $175k this year and posted $500K career earnings. All this as a 19 year old. Today's lopsided loss on red clay to a player of similar ranking is not the end of the world. He's where he should be and doing fine.

Tristan Boyer is a major force on red clay with winning record on that surface. He wins his 1st round qualifying in Madrid. GO CARD

boyer-campinasch-2024.jpg

Unfortunately Fery had to withdraw from the QF of a 25k in Egypt. Looks like his pro career is in jeopardy due to the persistent upper arm injury.

Wonder if he was trying to compensate for his smallish size by taking big cuts and ended up damaging the arm irreparably.

The Card through to the R16. Getting it done down low. Actually not much production from their top two of Banerjee or Kang right from the ACC tournament. But 3/4/5/6 have been money. And dubs is starting to gel.

Tough one against SC coming up next. Hope the Card can keep rolling.

I do not think Samir deserves that no 7 ranking..
Yea don’t get the ranking math. Pinnington and Suresh beat him but are ranked lower. Dostanic is better but also ranked below. SC’s Thomson is destroying opponents and that’s who he will be up against next. Problem is Stanford doesn’t have a strong #1 like Basavareddy or Fery in the recent past. Thought Kang might step up but he’s been inconsistent. And Basing and HVDS would lose often if they played at the top. So this is a case of putting some guys at 1&2 that can maybe win a bit from time to time but allow 3-6 to do their thing. That was the template for the win over UVA and is probably the path to Waco.

player better than Banerjee is that guy from sandiego

What does Stanford expect from South Carolina? What's the chatter?
Will be a tough battle. It's even stevens going into the match. Thomson is playing lights out and should be favored against almost anyone. Even beat Jodar in straights earlier in the season and just destroyed the FSU #1. Beyond that it'll depend on how the others go on the day. Dubs will be crucial. But here Stanford's doing better than it has in a while. So could be competitive. All said, expecting a quality R16 contest.

watched some footage of Kang. Why has he decided that he will just never learn to hit a backhand? I feel like surely he could learn it over the course of 3-4 years. Seems like a waste given how elite his forehand and serve are.

Could it be bc of his wrist? Not sure but believe he has a dodgy wrist that kept him out earlier this season. Ofc over the longer term he should absolutely develop more than just a slice BH. But he did very well with it in wins over Zheng and Quinn last summer. So maybe he thinks he can get by.

He might have similar issues that i have. I used to have 2 handed backhand which was pretty much my most consistent shot and i could change the line even better from that side. and i had left wrist problem pop up and no more 2 hander. i had to change to 1 handed backhand which really sucked. i am just an amateur player so this doesn't matter at all. but in Kang's case this could prevent him from going pro

You know, I kinda like the Stanford angled live stream cameras. Makes you feel like you are there in the stands more than the static ones directly behind the court that most schools have.

Have to say didn't see it playing out this way against a quality opponent. Stanford looked like they could have won every match. Godsick was back on serve. And Banerjee was up a break in the second against Thomson who's been tearing it up. Only Kang looked like losing the second set in his match but played awesome in the first set. Also the good feeling about doubles continued. Going will get tougher in Waco but the Card can battle for sure.

now the women's team to bring home the super regional

Was browsing through the TRN class lists and discovered a couple of blue chips ranked 9 & 10 in the Class of '26 having committed to the Card: Ronit Karki (NJ) and Arin Pallegar (CA). Karki is a top 50 ITF junior while Pallegar doesn't seem to have played much outside of the USTA sanctioned events. This is out in the future but the pipeline's looking good.

Wake’s the favorite in the semis but other than Doubles and Dostanic, the Card have a chance on all other courts. Columbia ran Wake very close and the Card are at least as good as Columbia 2 through 6. Question is will they be able to turn around this quick in the heat of Waco.

i had no idea Basing had to fight off 4 match points and comeback to win. This guy is a true champion. among champions

7 match points in total. MSU has match points at 5-2 also before all attention was on that court.

If it wasn’t for the heat and recovery factor I would pick Stanford today. They have looked stronger in recent weeks than Wake who have looked a little more vulnerable. I just wonder how much Stanford will have in the tank.

Stanford can win 2-5. Doubles, 1 and 6 will be tough.

Good season, boys. Exceeded my expectations. To win the title, they needed to beat TCU and Wake, and that’s a tough ask. When we learned last year that Nishesh was turning pro, I never would’ve guessed they’d make the final four. I thought they’d be lucky to make the tournament.

So what’s is store for next season? Will they get a veteran transfer that can contribute like HVDS? They’ll be solid, but they need another bar-raiser or someone they can really depend on.

They have Alex Chang from Cal coming in. He’s a very solid addition playing in the third spot. They also have Krupkin the frosh but not sure he can break the lineup. Rivera should be ready to step up. Probably play Banerjee, Kang, Chang, Godsick, Razeghi, Rivera. No foreign players starting after several years with Kolasinski, Fery, Basing, HVDS. This would be a solid team but certainly not enough to compensate for the production out of Basing and HVDS. They need a quality transfer or two.

Unless Stanford changes its rules transfers to the Farm can only be graduate students.

Oh they’re getting alex! I like watching him play. That’s a good pickup.
