Stanford Men

He’s a lock to win the five remaining US challengers. If he chooses to play them all he could take his points tally to around 700 which would take him up to atp 90. That should get him into MD (or close) at AO I’d think. If not he would definitely get the reciprocal wildcard into the MD. Imagine the crop of Tien, Michelsen, Quinn and Zheng all in the top 100 with Basavareddy and Spizzirri knocking on the door. Stocked US pipeline.

Looks like there's still a MD WC race here in the US starting next week for the men. I think the women start this week. https://floridatennis.com/blogs/new...eek-of-october-6-for-women-october-13-for-men. May be a topic best for another thread since the Stanford players probably won't be in it. LOL

Watched highlights of Basavareddy’s first round loss to Grenere at the Ch 125 in Italy. Quite shocking that he smashed a ball across the court after getting broken in the second set. Lucky for him it didn’t hit a ball boy or ump. Has some anger management issues to sort out. Also acted incredulous when Grenere hit winners, some of which were truly high quality. NB needs to chill a bit and hopefully his winning ways will return.

It will sound like defense for NB's behaviour that you witnessed, and I've got to admit I've only watched him play a handful of times, but it sounds a little out of character. Maybe those that have seen him play a lot can weigh in an update me. But I think he may be feeling the burden of being a professional. I think this is his first full year as a pro. He's done pretty well but been stuck around the 100 ranking. That's a little bit of a tough spot, main draw for challengers (not where you want to be) and qualifying for tour level events (again, not where a pro wants to be). With the long season nearing the end maybe he just snapped, not a good look and hope he learns and resets from it. I still think the kid has a higher ceiling. At this time of the year seeing peers like EQ, AM, LT and even Valentine Vacherot have some better results may be bothersome, hopefully he's not chasing others. The wear and tear on the body and all the international travel, man it's got to have it's non-glamorous moments that makes it just plain tough.

I'm betting he comes back stronger in 2026.

I’ve been following him since his junior tennis days. Never saw this behavior. Wouldn’t be surprised if the daily grind and the his recent results have gotten to him. It’s a tough, unglamorous journey. Glad he’s giving the tour a shot. He can always finish his eduction once he’s ready.

Yea didn’t want to sound harsh. Which is why I said “shocking”. He had a happy go lucky attitude while at Stanford from what I saw on their livestreams. You have a point. I did watch a replay of Spizzirri’s loss to Tomic in Lexington after which he trashed his racquet right on the court. I guess it’s the so near yet so far feeling.

One part of me says I like the fire. The kid cares and is ready to push himself to higher places. Yeah there’s got to be a reasonable response to adversity and balance. But I trust in NB.

Uneventful Fall so far for the men. No representation in the NCAA individuals for the first time in years. Chang has been a disappointment so far. Razeghi also failed to make a deep run in the regionals. The rest were missing in action. One thing seems likely and that’s Banerjee returning in the spring as he’s having little to no success in challengers. Basavareddy and Fery leaving was bc they met with immediate success at that level. Overall am not too pumped about the upcoming dual season with a lineup top to bottom that hasn’t done much if anything at all. But can’t complain as last year was special courtesy of Basing and HVDS.
