Stanford Men

Hopefully he will be back sooner rather then later, card will need him to make the tournament again next year, without him it will be close
not sure why so many of the blue chip players decided to go to other colleges like Yale, Columbia, and Brown. If I was going to pick one of those, I would choose Stanford over those colleges everytime.

I do feel for Tom Fawcett though. It was a great chance for him to play against the best guys in the country indoors. and now he won't get that chance til he plays USC and UCLA. He is thinking he may turn pro if he keeps improving next 1-2 years so I am sure he wants the chance to test his game against the best players in D1.
Fawcett turning pro? The guy is not that good. He has some of the ugliest grounstrokes for a D1 men's college tennis I've ever seen. Not to mention, the guy is a terrible mover. I've seen him get drop shot so many times.

Rumor has it Adrian Chamdani, former #9 in class of 2015, is looking to transfer from Duke to either Stanford or Cal. He beat Tommy Paul (current ATP rank #202) at Kalamazoo in 2014. Could be a pretty big pickup for either team.

What has he been doing at Duke for the past year ?? With him and Axel added to the lineup and most of the talents coming back from previous year,,,,,,Stanford could be a LOCK to win the NCAA. They won't lose one single dual match with that lineup........

Ok, Adrian looks pretty good.... He looks like he is Asian ??? is he Asian ? kind of odd last name..........

Luca won that match 4-6, 6-2, 6-0, at #6 singles. Not sure what the story on Chamdani is. The Ministry of Truth has erased him from the roster, even though the roster says 2015-2016 and he played in 2016. I guess he is already gone.

what happened there ? maybe Adrian isn't as good as advertised ?

He got routined yesterday 6-3, 6-2 by U of Chicago's Nicolas Chua in the US Open National Playoff NoCal Section. He won't be back at Duke.
Wow, he got routine by D3 player ? then he won't be much of an asset to the Cardinal..... they will pass

Not too surprising considering the tournament is played at his home club.

Also, Tom had a pretty bad loss to Georgia's incoming freshman Emil Reinberg earlier today. Reinberg saved multiple match points and Fawcett hit 18 double faults.
He got wild card into the main draw last year as well. Hopefully he will do better this time around.

What was this ? Challenger event or futures circuit ?

this is not a good preparation for Winnetka challenger. I was picking him to win the challenger event next week........

I recently came across this video of Tom playing against Cal's Goransson.

Tom definitely has a big game and a lot of potential but I really think he needs to greatly improve his speed and his footwork. I'm not quite as sold on him as you are but I think he definitely can be great.

Rough day for current college players and recent grads. Alex Rybakov, Mackie McDonald, Jared Hiltzik, Tom Fawcett, and Ryan Shane all lost.

Meanwhile, recent Notre Dame grad Alex Lawson and recent Texas A&M grad Jackson Withrow won their first round doubles match.
On the Bright note, Tom Fawcett did lose in 1st round but he lost to a very talented player named Gojowczyk from Germany. Another player from Germany that is supposed to move up the ranking very quickly. and Tom played him to 3rd set tiebreaker and held his serve most of the time. It was a very close match, 1 or 2 points decided that match. So Tom is very close to upper levels of challenger tour already. and he is improving his game every day. Fawcett's game is definitely headed in the right direction. and he has the game for top 100 in ATP and perhaps top 50 as well.

All this is so true...except last week he lost to Georgia's 7 guy, so the other end of the arguement is that he's an upper end college player...he really should go get a nice internship

He has all the weapons to become a solid pro. Big Serves, big forehand, and good transition game.

OMG! The curse of Fedace. I can't tell you how many "Standford" players the boy has predicted would be Top 50 in the world. Truth be told, most of them are solid college players and have the benefit of a top notch education and the contacts to shine in the real world after college tennis. Top 50 in the world?? Not likely (and I will bet Tom is not thinking that way)...

Not sure where to post this since there doesn't seem to be a Stanford womens thread but CiCi Bellis has verbally committed to play for the Cardinal. She will absolutely shred everyone else. Seems almost unfair haha.

I will make a new thread for that and give you credit for it. Since this page is mostly about the guys.

Sameer Kumar is on a tear right now. Beat future Buckeye John McNally 7-6, 7-6 last week, crushed Virginia's Henrik Wiersholm 6-1, 6-1 in the same tournament, and just took out UCLA's Martin Redlicki 6-4, 6-4 in the qualies of the Edwardsville Future. Hopefully he can keep up this level of play during the college season.

took out Redlicky ?? WOW. Redlicky is new #1 player for UCLA. this means Cardinal is sure bet to win the PAC-12 and NCAA title next year.

Rough day for the Cardinal men. In Aptos qualies Michael Genender lost to ATP #1092 Dean O'Brien 6-3, 6-2 and Roy Lederman lost to 2012 NCAA Finalist and ATP #433 Eric Quigley 6-0, 6-1. Also, in the main draw Tom Fawcett has drawn #1 seed and ATP #82 Daniel Evans.

he can beat him and he can prove he is top 50 player in ATP

Prediction, Evans wins, 2-2.
unfortunately you are spot on after 1st set :(
Now, if Tom could make a volley every now and then......

@andfor - ok, do you have any predictions about future stock market trends. Or whatever. I'll take anything you say..... :)

Gawd! Our favorite fanboy is at it again. Tom Fawcett is a very good college player and will have a Stanford degree to pave his way into the world. Fed...I mean Nostradamus, does not seem to get that there are very few college players that have top 50, let alone top 10 careers.

http://www.tennisrecruiting.net/player.asp?id=632556

this is a top player in juniors. he could bring the NCAA championships back to Stanford

He didnt play consistently at the two USTA boys nationals this summer. As a high-ranked top ten blue chip he was seeded but still lost early- R64 of main draw at both hard courts and clays. He lost in 3 to two 4 stars and lost a set to another 4 star in July/August (4 stars he lost to will be 5 stars soon). At least the ITAs dont play on clay. Check him out on the tennisrecruiting.net site-he played better in fall/winter than summer. He played the qualifying for 10 Futures but did not make it to main draw until he got a wild card but lost in 1st round. Obviously he is playing the right tournaments to build his game, and he won 3 matches in some of the qualifiers but he probably is not going to break out his first year.
