Stanford Men

If you look at their WTN, you might not be too far off. Either due to scheduling, or not winning against top teams or both, you earn #41. I suspect they will get back to around 25. Any higher and my guess is they will have to flat our finish the season from here undefeated. Some of the ranking insiders may may be able to narrow down where they can finish from here, but hosting a region looks to be greater than a longshot.
Actually I was concerned they would drop to a 4 seed and have to play a one seed in the regionals which could have meant a R64 exit. But they might avoid that fate now. Although I agree that anything better than 20 would require them to run the table from here and perhaps win the Pac12 championship. Given how strong Arizona is, that will be near impossible.

The other thing that strikes me is apart from Basavareddy who's been cruising and possibly Rajesh, none of the others are winning easy which just makes it dicey. This was the case against lowly UNLV too. The Card need to tighten up if they harbor any hopes of making some noise at NCAAs.

Agreed. Basing especially has been a bit weak, as well as whoever they put out at 5. Banarjee has been rounding into form though and I'm hopeful that Kang makes the leap that all of his past results indicate that he's capable of.

Pac-12 player of the week, possibly the decade

Ez win again. Seems like the only 2 real matches they have left are asu/arizona. they put rajesh up at 5, which seems deserving given his latest results. Nishesh wasn't able to finish his game with Vandeecastle though which is tough for his ranking.

Good job! Also nice doubles play. The Oregon line 1 dubs is ranked 33. So should be good for Basing/Godsick to maybe get ranked. Too bad Basavareddy couldn't finish. Appeared to have the upper hand in that match. He's cruising. Basing clinched which should be good for his confidence. Banerjee and Kang with the other singles Ws.

The sweeps continue. This time over Washington. Good to see the bottom half of the lineup carry the Card to victory. Wasn't able to watch the livestream but Basavareddy was in a bit of a bother against the Washington #1, at least that's what the score showed.

This is scary good. Kyle Kang just blowing away all his opponents now

Arizona more than ASU. Arizona is solid top to bottom. ASU’s bottom half is not that good which creates an opening for Stanford.

Stanford has been playing well but these matches will be on the road where they are 1-4, with their only win coming against Memphis to go with losses to Texas, TCU, San Diego and Michigan (which they definitely would have won if Basavareddy had played).

Arizona is a top 5 team whereas ASU is 22, slightly better than Stanford at 30. Looking at the individual matchups against ASU I like Basavareddy over Cassone, Kang over Bullard, Rajesh over Ginat. And I like the Card to take doubles. Could be close all the way though.

A split seems possible. Going 0-2 would be disappointing.

Card up to #30. yeah, the arizona matches are key. Both for team ranking and Nishesh will get a shot at #3 and #14 singles players.
UCLA's win against harvard is good for us as well since now they're up to #24, and I like our chances against them.

I think it's all going to come down to whether or not they can beat Arizona for if they get a top 16 seed or not..even if they drop the regular season game, hopefully they can get it done in Ojai. They do seem to be improving.

The Calabasas ITF is essentially another college event haha. Kang had a great win yesterday, beating Axel Nefve (UF's #1 from last year). Hope it can translate to league play. Tomorrow Nishesh plays the UCI #1. Next up for Kang is EQ. If Rajesh can pull of a win he'll be up against Lord Tomic.

I hate to say it, but Tomic is washed up. If he doesn't get back in the top 100 by year end, I don't see him back at tour level.
Therer's always the pickelball tour to fall back on ,,, how is the tour paying in australia ? maybe he can start tour there and have it catch on fire down under

Ha! There is a Aussie pickleball tour, I know a guy that moved back there to play on it. Don't know what it pays, but it can't be much more than a part time gig.

on 2nd thought, Tomic will never go for that. His plan is to win Wimbledon then he will retire. He said that in the past

Kyle beat the NCAA champion Ethan Quinn, does that mean Kang will win the NCAA singles crown this year in may ?;)
Knowing you and Feddie for the last 20 years, this is called a rhetorical question. My recommendation based on your dismal track record is do not predict he will win so he can avoid your ongoing prediction jinx.

So that means, Kyle beat the NCAA champion, ethan and right now Nishesh is better than Kang so that must bean Nishesh is sure lock to win the NCAA singles title.

Nishesh won but Samir had to withdraw. I really hope it was nothing serious, he was playing great. He would really be needed if we want to have any shot against Arizona. Nishesh vs Trevor is a rematch of the Kalamzoo SF's, Trevor dominated Nishesh there so will be interesting to see if something different happens this time.

Interesting to see Stanford Football increasingly using the transfer portal. Will that extend to tennis?

But the Card just can’t compete with an Ohio State in NIL $s. One Buckeye NIL collective raised a million bucks within a week!

Stanford wiping the floor of sundevil stadium with blazing play. After this dual match, they will be calling these guys Sun Trees.......... :-D they took the Webcam down ,, they knew they were going to be embarrassed

Excellent win by the men over ASU 4-0. I didn’t expect a W, definitely not such a convincing win on the road. Looks like the lower court singles made the difference. Interesting Nico was missing in action. Maybe the visit by Fed gave the boys some much needed energy.

4-0 over a good Sun Devils squad on the road. The Card are finding their groove and are probably the second best in the Pac12 given how other results have gone. My sense was the path to victory would be through the bottom of the lineup and that played out. ASU is top heavy but pretty weak lower down. Good to see another doubles W.

Looking forward to Arizona tomorrow. Hope Stanford is competitive.

if Card win, they should be ranked in top 5 by next week

They should receive consideration for a top 16 slot if they beat Arizona bc Arizona is an elite team this season with a W over Texas at Indoors. They are solid 1 through 6 with no apparent weaknesses. The Card would have to play out of their skins to take them. However even with a loss to Arizona they have a good shot at closing out their conference schedule well with winnable matches against Utah and the LA teams coming up. UCLA could be a bit tricky but I don’t see Utah or USC beating Stanford.

This and a strong showing at the Pac12 tournament would make them a solid regional second seed at the NCAAs capable of upsetting 8-16 ranked teams if they are drawn in their brackets.

I’d like to see Godsick healthy again and back at #1 doubles with Basing. They are now ranked 21 nationally. Along with Basavareddy/Banerjee, Chaudhray /Parikh and Kang/Rajesh, they give the Card serviceable doubles options. Kang and Rajesh made the final of the 25k in Southern Cal last week and clinched against ASU. So they seem to gel well.
