Stanford Men

They’re always injured
unstoppable force in this tournament

Banerjee’s up and down season came to an end today. Had a good win over the younger Bailly yesterday who’s a 14 UTR to go with a bad loss to Baris today. Also had wins over Gavin Young, Pablo Alemany, Kholo Montsi and Bor Artnak but also some shocking losses. He has a high level but also a low level. You never know which one shows up. In terms of bare stats he was 16-11 (3-1 at the top spot). For many that would be a half decent year but not for a top recruit from whom much was expected. Don’t want to be too critical because he has been taped up since injuring his wrist at the Pac12 tournament. Must be serious enough if it hasn’t healed yet. It is true that the book on him was to hit to his backhand because of his inability to hit it normally. Surprisingly he’s been injured more than Basavareddy which is hard to believe.

lol Jk he’s out. I’m b4 nostra says “He was Injured! Bad official! How can the NCAA allow such hostile conditions! His teammates should have been removed! One sided cheering!”

Yeah, the Pepperdine match was rough to see, especially with how one-sided it was. It does feel like something needs to change to get the team back on track. Maybe a fresh approach or some new strategies could help.

Did…you just respond to the March 2012 OP? Cause that’s kind of awesome

Basavareddy played two close matches against Smith this season, so it was always going to be a tough one. He came up short. Great season though in which he had several quality wins going 17-2 after taking the fall off. It was a real pleasure watching him play at Stanford on live stream. For Card fans the million dollar question is whether he’ll exit the way Fery did. Without him the Card May fall out of the top 30.

Not sure what happened, Fery blew him away last year and yet Nishesh has such difficult time with him, i think its just about matchups. Just bad luck he ran into someone that you don't like playing against on your worst day. But that's tennis for you

i got an idea. Let's all ask michael if he wants to transfer to Stanford. He has to agree that if he does transfer, NCAA title for him and the team is a lock for sure. and academics wise, he's not sacrificing anything. if anything its an improvement.

Hey, Michael, do you want to come to Stanford and waste your talent and probably get injured in the process? If so, send private message to Nostradamus and he will connect you to the Stanford coaches.

P.S. Are you up for pickleball instead of tennis on Tuesdays and Thursdays?

Basavareddy beats Quinn 5&4. From what I can tell it was a single break in each set. Tbf Quinn hasn’t quite taken off since his NCAA crown last year. Sure he’s ranked around the mid-200s but I had hoped he’d be flirting with a top 150 spot by now if not closer to 100. He should be going deep in Challengers. Not targeting only him…to be fair the same can be said of Fery but he never won the NCAA singles (didn’t come close to it).

Nishesh is ready for top 50 in ATP tour

Quinn has so many weapons. I expected that he would have made better progress.

ATP scouting and game planning is so good nowadays - it’s unkind to those who have rather obvious weapons but also rather obvious weaknesses (backhand, consistency).

If you’re going to make a career in your nowadays with a serve and a forehand, those shots best be top 10 in the world.

That's pretty interesting - what kind of stuff goes into scouting and game planing at the top level/how has it changed?
Against a guy like quinn, it's not exactly rocket science that his backhand and consistency are weaknesses, it's hard for me to believe that players 10 years ago wouldn't have done the same kinda thing

They did. There's more access to detailed data and video today so maybe the scouting report gets out faster now.

Also my feeling about quinn is his movement will hold him back from ultimately succeeding
There’s a guy who does extensive challenger tennis watching and evaluation and I remember him not being impressed by Quinn last year. He didn’t like his rally tolerance against better players. This was not someone who watched him in college, just from a challengers perspective.

are you talking about Mike Cation (the main challenger commentator)?

Basavareddy looking scary good in the challenger. mowing down the competition, should win this little rock challenger easily. Go Card

Today match against Szvada will be interesting. His bottom half of the draw has shaped up favorably should he get through today.

My heart actually breaks for nishesh..been following him for a year now and that knee always flares up. I don’t know if he’ll be able to have a pro career. Only 19 and already has 2 knee surgeries

He can have a go if he manages his schedule and mixes in clay tournaments, a surface he is very good on. He’s been playing nonstop for three months now. And that might have something to do with him breaking down. Still think he’s better than Fery and will have a bigger impact in the pros.

he could win the french open one day just as agassi did

Basavareddy finally hit the wall. Lost 6&0 in the semis. Haven’t seen him get bagled so either was outplayed or his dodgy knee got in the way.
