Thanks for posting. Looks like the highlights focused on Rublev even though the match was close. Fery needs to work on his second serve and add some pace and depth to his groundies to keep up with the top of the rung players on tour. But I like his variety and his volleying remains elite.Looking good Arthur

And yes Altmaier is one of the best players on tour - Alcaraz, Sinner, Djoko, Meddie, and Altmaier are expected to dominate the 2025-2030 seasons
Lol, you should chill. By no stretch did I imply Altmaier is anything more than a decent player (anyone with a win over Zverev should be considered as such.) I just don't get the vitriol (pardon me I am dumb!!)
No vitriol, anyone with a career 40-74 ATP record is a juggernaut in my book, especially when one is facing them despite severe injuries
The historical inside humor to Mike's post was genius. Goes back to Feddie's ongoing predictions for many Stanford players to get to #1 in the world or win GS's before doing anything of significance in the NCAA let alone on the pro tour. It's all in fun.
He also had an ATP high ranking of 47 and is now 80ish or something. W/L doesn't tell the whole story. Juggernaut he certainly isn't (sarcasm aside!) but he is a pretty good player to have cracked the top 50.
Just saying I am not over the top regarding Fery. I'd say I am not over the top regarding anyone. But he did play a decent opponent. That's all. Nothing more, nothing less.

Basavareddy routined the world #204. Promising stuff. That + Fearnley coming through over the #188 in straights at wimbledon today makes me feel that college tennis this year was especially strong with the top guys playing at a legit top 150 level.

Congratulations to Nishesh for reaching the quarterfinals against Tomic tomorrow, this should be a good one against future wimbledon champion. Also reaching the semifinals in doubles. I predict all Stanford final in doubles.

Fery wasn't very injured. He is out of shape and not as good of an athlete, especially for the Tour. Lets give credit where credit is due though. The only former Stanford Card under Goldstein that has actually earned his way into Grand Slams is Boyar. He is hovering around 200 atp (was 193) and has quality wins on three surfaces - green clay, hard and red clay. Not only that, Boyar has wins over Tabilo, Darderi, Van Ashe, Mmoh, Tomic, and several other top 100 + 150 players. To me, he has shown his potential and athleticism. He has two ATP Challenger titles this year and several QF appearances, and a SF. Fery has never earned himself into a Slam. He was given 3 WCs on grass lead-up tourneys this year, and won only one match heading into wimby. I like Arthur a lot but lets not overstate his potential. Plus he is only 5-9 on a good day. And, Boyar was injured for the entire year in 2022, so he only started full time on Tour in Feb 2023. He went from 1500 to top 200 in under 12 months - who else has done that recently? And what about Basing? Also a better athlete.
I think Basavareddy’s gone from Stanford. He’s consistently going deep in Challengers so makes sense for him to take the plunge. That’s gonna be very bad news for the Card as the rest of the roster is pretty mediocre made up of major disappointments (Banerjee, Basing) or guys yet to prove themselves (Kang, Godsick, Rivera, and the frosh Razegi) They should be a sitting duck for Duke, UVA and most of the ACC.

Agree but he needs to get stronger in his body and not get injured so much. He needs to work with one of the top tour trainers and become much stronger, that would shoot him all the way up to top 50 in no time

Congrats to Arthur Fery for reaching the 3rd round of the doubles event, pretty soon, he won't even need to qualify for all the tour events. GO CARD
Doubles rankings do not count for singles entry, at the Futures/Challengers level it might help when qualifying has some open slots. On the other hand singles rankings counts for doubles entry, he needs progress here first and foremost unless he's going to be a doubles specialist, and we all know he did not leave Stanford for doubles. Nice result though. Go Fery!

Kyle Kang is quietly having a nice summer, just beat Cannon Kingsley in straights. Could be a real #1 next year
Hope you are right. I can see him at #1 for the Card if Basavareddy leaves but I wouldn’t anoint him a “real” #1 yet. He played in the 4 spot last year with mixed results and lost when it mattered. Lost in the tournament at Oklahoma and Wake while DNFing against SMU. Real #1s like Basavareddy and Fery deliver most of the time at the top which is another level vs playing down the order. Not saying Kang can’t make the leap, just don’t want to jump the gun. But no doubt he’s having a solid summer.

This forehand i heard is better than Berrentini forehand, his game is very similar to Berrentini, in the long run Kyle will be even better than him

Am not qualified to make these comparisons but his forehand is elite at the college level. Also watching his recent film he appears to be hitting a two handed backhand more frequently than before. Credit to the Stanford coaches for developing that part of his game.
On a separate note, Razeghi the incoming freshman won doubles at Wimbledon juniors. Hope he hits the ground running.

If you'll let me sneak in here, I have a good memory of Stanford to tell you. Many years ago, I lived at my parents house
which was less than a mile west of Stanford. I went to college elsewhere, but I liked to do my homework in the
Stanford library. (Back in those days, anyone could go inside without a student ID!!) Something interesting was the
sound level there. If you go to a library in a junior college, the noise of people talking is about the same as in their cafeteria.
If you go to a library in a standard good university, the sound is cut in half. And then if you go inside the Stanford library,
you can literally "hear a pin drop," because the students there are dead serious about having a high quality study time!!

Basavareddy goes down 4&0 to the 3 seed Grenier (95 atp). Good first set but time for him to heal himself if that is indeed the problem. Losing can create a negative feedback loop and he should avoid that. Or he could step down and play some 25Ks to get back on the winning track. That said he’s having a very good summer, better than Williams, Zheng, etc with the exception of Tien (among his peers).
Big win for Kang over NCAA singles finalist Zheng in a third set breaker at the 25k in Edwardsville. Second semis appearance in a 25k this summer for the rising sophomore. Bound to boost his confidence as he looks to take the top spot in the Card lineup if Basavareddy doesn't return.

Nikesh is in 2nd place in USO MD wild card challenge (behind by close to 60 points) after Tien who isn’t playing this week. Nikesh would have to win this challenger to surpass Tien; actually if Spizz or Colton Smith win Lincoln with 75 points, they would win WC. This is the last week of challenge! #2-5 all very close in the race. To win his 1st rd, Spizz must beat Eubanks who was ranked in the 30s a year ago.Not playing is #3 JJ Wolf on USO MD WC list who must win some matches with his Cincy WC this month. Wolf does have direct entry to USO Qualis.
