Stanford Women Tennis

Draws not out yet for Indoors. But based on how I think the first round goes Stanford as number 2 ranked would play second lowest ranked team excluding PAC-12 ‘s.

I believe that is Auburn who is certainly challenging competition. They just beat Duke to qualify . Then they fired their coach the same day and removed her from their website. Must have been a major disagreement for that to happen….

Anyway, hope the Card does better than last year ! Hope also they are getting in some indoor practice before they leave.

Women's seed 1-8, then randomly place the other 8 teams. The only caveat is that you can't play somebody that is on your regular season schedule. UNC, Stanford, OkState, Michigan, and NC State are going to be part of the 8 seeds, leaving only 3 teams left to be seeded. Ohio State should be seeded, based on their body of work. Last two spots kind of a toss up, but I'm going to guess Florida and Texas. UGA hasn't done enough for me while Pepperdine hasn't played a lot with no great wins. With these assumptions, the only schools Stanford could play are: Auburn, Georgia or UVA.

But based on current rankings you have to include Ohio State too ? And if they don’t go strictly by the rankings I would have thought also possibly Florida. Georgia is currently ranked 4 and of course they beat Stanford at last year indoors. In fact Stanford too could be downgraded based on indoor form history ?

Some concern in that Blokhina, Hui and Xu were locked in battles. Sterner tests ahead. But on the flip side, the top three just cruised.

Revenge time. Michigan will suffer the consequences . As i see it, even if Card drops the doubles, they will still win this semifinal. #1 to #3 are just too strong for michigan and Hui had a off day today, she was bit tired. You will see Hui at her best tomorrow, straight sets win.
Michigan can't handle this US open champion

Stanford plays Oklahoma State today not Michigan

Very commendable. I’d say apart from Xu who is from the northeast this lineup has had no real experience playing indoors even back to their junior careers. They are either Floridians or Californians. And Stanford doesn’t play indoors at all at home.

Watching Ma play is so pleasing. No heavy hitting or grunting, just the silent assassin!

So Stanford’s run ends at semis losing 4-2 to OSU

After losing the doubles point, wins at 2 and 3 for Ma 6-3 6-4 v Peyre and Yep 6-3 7-5 v Kajuru .
Losses at 4,5 and 6 for Blokhina 6-7 , 4-6 v Carrington, Hui 0-6, 6-2 2-6 v Miyamoto and Xu 3-6 4-6 v Novak.
Blake at 1 unfinished in a battle with Komar 6-3, 3-6, 3-2 .

A big improvement over last year but doubles cost them this time.

if this was outdoor, they would have won. fast indoor conditions really hurt them playing against these power players

I could watch Ma play all day long. So effortless. The problem is she has too many choices on what to do to w/ the ball.

This is not what I expected. I consider 4-6 the STRENGTH of the line up.
I agree. I was surprised all 3 lost.

As we saw with Blokhina last year it can take some time for even the best junior players to adjust to college tennis. The OSU coaching was very “in your face “ yesterday. I really think it’s time to look at the rules and limit on court coaching. Every point coaching really is ridiculous. The doubles particularly was over the top. So in the case of Hui she is also going through that familiarization process.

And maybe it’s time to look at the doubles pairings again ? The Blake/ Blokhina duo which was so good last year is not firing so far. Or move them down the order ?

I feel good about the dubs w the addition of Hui, as Stanford won the dubs point in the first 2 matches. Compare w/ the last couple of seasons where they rarely won dubs against quality teams

Again I go back to them not being particularly experienced indoors (not an excuse). Let’s just hold judgement until later in the season. Also there’s some comfort in that they lost to the eventual champs.

OSU cowgirls won. so that means Card would have won if they just got thru yesterday 's match. this shows you that no team will stand in the way of the Card in NCAA championship

Also, to put the tournament into context UNC were without no 2 Brantmeier and no 3 Scotty in the singles line up throughout the tournament. Didn’t affect Stanford but UNC are still the most powerful opposition.

I knew about the injury to Brantmeier, but what happened to Scotty? I didn't realize they were 2 players down. No worries for when we play them, even our No. 5 has taken out Brantmeier before! Hee hee

hmm, I thought Stanford team lost because the girls had to be back at school so they could not play the finals on Monday. But perhaps it was due to the match being indoors. One will never know...... :)

Overall in the tournament singles
1. Blake W1-L1-UNF1
2. Ma 3-0-0
3. Yep 3-0-0
4. Blokhina 1-1-1
5. Hui 0-2-1
6. Xu 0-1-2

1-4 results not too surprising but unexpected at 5 and 6.

Still, big match outdoors against Texas coming up …..

Card slip by the Longhorns of Texas up on the Farm 4-3. Impressive wins at 1 & 2, and then Blokhina seals the deal 7-5 in the 3rd. Great win for the team!

Next up: UC Santa Barbara!
Yes, unsurprisingly close against #4 ranked Texas.

After another disappointing doubles loss it would be a challenge to win 4 singles.
Yepifanova surprising 1-6 2-6 loss to #36 Rapolu at 3
Comfortable wins for Ma 7-5 6-1 over #33 Sasnouskaya at 2 and Hui 7-6 6-3 over Pachlekeva at 4
Blake then regrouped to beat #22 Zeynalova 6-3 0-6 6-4 at 1
but Xu went down 4-6 6-4 4-6 to #103 Ovrootsky at 6
and the clincher in a nailbiter for Blokhina 6-4 6-7 7-5 over #125 Chavatipon at 4.

Really must sort out the doubles situation though !

Great win over a top drawer opponent. Blokhina is starting to realize her potential. Ma is the female version of Basavareddy (Card men’s phenom) in terms of the patterns she plays. Have to say though Ropalu outmuscled Yepifanova. Didn’t think anyone could do that to Yep. That was some pro level power on display from both ends.

Stanford capped a good weekend with a 6-1 win over UC Santa Barbara

Interesting the doubles order was switched and all 3 teams won. Ma/ Yep 6-3 Blake / Blokhina 6-4 , Xu / Houghton 6-0

in singles only Yep lost on match tiebreak to Camille Kiss. In the absence of Blake and Hui from singles the order was

1. Ma - D. #62 Honer 7-6, 7-6

2 .Yep lost to Kiss 6-7 6-3 6-10

3. Blokhina D. Richardson 6-1 6-1

4. Xu d. Reuter 6-1 6-0

5. Yu d. Lu 6-3 6-1

6. Houghton d.Pacot 6-1 6-1

So a very productive weekend for the Card who sit with an impressive start of 10-1 for the season.

My guess is that the dubs switch was made as Blake/Blok seemed to be struggling so far this year. They had a really rough Indoor tournament if I recall.

Ma played really well on Saturday, as she is off to a great start. My god, smoothest strokes I have ever seen. It's almost like she has too many choices as she can do so much w/ the ball.

It was good to see Yu play...I have only caught her in action once and that was last yearin the fall. Forgot how vocal she is.

Houghton played well...love her game too.

Did you check the ASU and Arizona websites? Usually there are livestreams available on most D1 program websites. Your other (less desirable) option would be the Pac12 network.

I looked on both websites and don’t see any links. Not on the PAC 12 schedule either. Maybe I’m missing it somehow ..

Directs you to the Pac12 network. Am sure similar functionality exists on the ASU women’s tennis website too
Yes, thanks SS but neither match is shown in the PAC-12 schedule. And on the ASU website it previews the match and says fans can follow the match scores by live stats but does not mention live streaming.
