Blake named at position 3 in NCAA women’s all tournament team. Does anyone know the rest of the selections ? Can’t see it on NCAA website.

it will be Ma vs Yeppafinova in the semifinals

Shaider and Ma both withdrew from the tournament
This is just classic Feddie, uttering predictions rips the fabric of our universe and leads to anything and everything else but what he claims

I’d rather face down a gang of ravenous wolves than have Feddie say something good was going to happen to me - would be afraid I was going to drop dead

Not sure why either player dropped out. Shnaider probably wouldn't have rec'd a WC into the USO even if she had won the NCAA singles titles. I believe, usually only reserved for, like it or not, US citizens.

Good wins for Yepifanova (over Markham ) and Blake ( over #9 ranked Komar )

Ma is sick I believe.

Yep to play Reasco of UGA who had a big win over UNC ‘s #1 Brantmeier and Blake with a very tough one against Broadus.

Blokhina / Blake to play Rajecki / Miller of NC State.

Great win for Yep. Down 1-4 in the first set, she battled back to win, even though she looked totally gassed in the middle of that first set. Apparently reaching the Round of 16 earns All-American status. Congrats!

Great win by Blake. She was up 5-2 in the 1st and Broadus came storming back. Blake held her off and put the ka-bosh on any comeback in the 2nd set. Didn't realize Broadus was undefeated - she had a massive forehand.

Did anyone watch the Blake/Ma match? I've never seen Ma play, but she was either gassed or just didn't want to be out there, judging by her body language. Either way, huge win for Angelica over the No. 3 seed.

‘Yes I saw it. Ma does always play in her languid, laid back style. She gets away with it because she has great hands and very good anticipation. But there were times in the match when she looked dispirited, especially in the tie break where she seemed to give up when 0-3 down. But as you say, I don’t suppose Angelica minds about that too much. With 2 top 10 wins and a further top 20 win will be curious to see where she will be ranked after this.
But Sleeth is another tough opponent. She defeated Lea Ma 6-3 6-0 in super regionals.

Final team rankings are out and Stanford finishes at No. 5. However, I'd be quite upset if I were NC State. You def Stanford in the semis, who a day earlier def Texas A&M. Yet Texas A&M ends up ranked above both NC State and Stanford.

Good to see Stanford up to #5 ,a good season for sure. But A&M are ranked where they are because they have been strong throughout the year.

Am I crazy? Can Blake go ALL THE WAY? What a story book ending for her if she does. Let's be real, nobody wants to be known as perhaps the only player not to win a National Team Championship. But what if she wins the Individual Championship instead? That would be amazing.

Of course that would be amazing. But in any case the word is she will be back next year and so will have another shot at that National Team Championship. Which of course would compensate for the Team missing a year through COVID

Didn’t quite go for Blake today ( kiss of death from Nostradamus! ) . Went down 7-6 6-4 to Sleeth in a couple of tight sets. She’ll be disappointed. But she can be proud of her season : 36-7 for the year , 20-2 in duals, undefeated at position 3. Chosen for PAC 12 team of the year and NCAA team of the tournament. Achieved All American status for the first time.

Her wins in this tournament over Lea Ma, Komar and Broadus were outstanding and could see her end the season as Stanford’s highest ranked player. And if she comes back next year time for another shot at that Team Championship!

Choy leaves but they have two top blue chips in Yu and Hui (1&2) coming in. Who sits if Blake comes back? It would be unfair to have that be Xu who played outstanding down the stretch. Well, it’s a good problem for the coaches to have!

Wow....Blake really had an amazing season. And yes, I too have heard that she will return for a 5th year. Should be a strong squad next year if Yu and Hui are the real deal.

Based on a few matches I watched this spring, only Blake was playing at a high level recently. Is she really eligible to return next year? If so, she may be considered for line one over Yepifanova, who also had a solid season and contributed more dual match wins than anyone, but her level dropped a bit towards the end. Regretfully, Ma and Blokhina did not play great the entire year. I suspect that most of these ladies prioritize elite education over college tennis. Hopefully the incoming pair will perform, at least one of them must substitute Choy who delivered tons of important wins. Yes, roster depth is a great problem to have!

Very good year overall. Such a complete domination in PAC-12 and reaching semis in Teams is something to be proud of. Go Card!

And watching college tennis at 7am PST on weekdays is tough - just saying!

But don’t you think that potential NCAA champions need depth ? UNC have been able to leave out Forbes/ Tran/ Yalagarda at various times this year. My understanding is that Yu is the stronger and so it’s likely that Xu and Hui will compete for the number 6 spot. Plus it enables some rotation of the line up so all the players get rested from time to time. And provide doubles options.

Agree. To compete with UNC they have to build roster depth. Yu did well against Riske at the US Open last year and has been doing well in the Futures and achieved a WTA rank inside 650. Hui has been doing well on the junior circuit and also rose to 938 WTA. So both have pro experience which is more than could be said of Xu and Ma when they came in. Not only will the roster be deep but it’ll also be battle tested

NCAA Champs def need depth. No matter how talented the top end is, you need strength in the bottom half too. I think we have been spoiled the last couple of years by having Higuchi & Choy, which were almost guaranteed Ws. So if Yu can compete for S5 or higher, that would be great.

I'm going to disagree Blake was the only one playing at a high level. I think almost the entire team played well late in the season - most notably the back courts. Choy def kicked into another gear as the season progressed. Xu and Blok def had some rough patches during the season, but they both really came on strong toward the end. I'm really looking forward to seeing Blok's progression next season.

Yes Blokhina is going to be the key. She has a high ceiling and didn’t play to her potential. For someone who beat Madison Brengle at a 60k and Brantmeier of UNC at the Easter Bowl to win it, she can and will do much better. And if she does then look out!

Yepifanova goes down 7-5 6-3 to Tian of UCLA .

Blake continues her run with a huge win over #3 seed Lea Ma from Georgia 6-4 7-6 ( 7-0 ) to make quarter finals.
This Tian is something else. Smallish in physical stature but has impeccable tennis sense and so good at exploiting angles. Yepifanova couldn’t solve the puzzle yesterday. Good to see Tian and Maddy Sieg of USC keep the Pac12 flag flying at Lake Nona.

In fact Ma, Blokhina and Xu all ended up with 15-6 win / loss records in duals. So it’s true to say that while Blok and Xu had some rough patches , Ma did also. Not winning any of her NCAA matches and no win after April 14. Though in fairness most of those matches were unfinished. Hopefully she can reproduce her year 1 form next year. I do think there’s a case for starting Blake at #2 next year.

So it’s Sleeth v Tian in women’s NCAA final. Interesting that Blake’s only 3 losses this season and post season came against the 2 finalists and the semi finalist Sieg and 2 of those went to 3 sets.

She cannot be one of the few Stanford women's tennis player to go 4 years without taking home the team trophy. She must come back for a 5th year.
Nobody wanted it as bad as her, so she really deserves it!!!

Technically, she has already gone 4 years without a team trophy. But I know what you mean -- leaving Stanford without a team trophy.

Peyton Stearns is making a splash on the pro tour, her current rank is #69, and she just defeated former GS Champ, Ostapenko. Let's not forget that Connie defeated PS back in Feb '22 when the Card routed the Longhorns 5-2 at the Farm.

Final rankings Blake #21 Yepifanova #28 Ma #33 Blokhina #73

Looking at the rankings List I really can‘t see how Mohr and Dahlstrom ( #19 and #20 ) finished above either Blake or Yep. Mohr 32-17 with less top 20 wins and more low ranked losses , Dahlstrom 17-8 the same. Compăred to Blake 36-7 and Yep 36-8 both with more top 20 wins and less low ranked losses. Maybe someone else can look at it and see if I‘m missing something ?

Blake /Blokhina #13 in doubles despite not playing well in Orlando.

So Blake finishes top ranked Stanford player and definitely made her case for playing higher in the line up.

Carol Zhao qualifies for the Wimbledon Main Draw! Good for her...as she's been grinding for awhile now. She defeated Coco Vnadeweghe in the final round of qualifying, who beat CZ earlier in the month. CZ was at Stanford, what, 1 or 2 more years longer than K Ahn?

Also, I was going to say that Stanford's 2023/24 campaign just got a little easier w/ Maddy Seige turning pro. Then I remembered it didn't really matter, as USC and UCLA fled the Pac 12.

Wonder if Tian will turn pro too, as she's won 2 $15k tournaments and reached the final of another. She's on quite the roll.

Big fan of Tian. She cruised through the draw in Orlando not breaking a sweat. If Sieg is turning pro so should Tian as she easily handled her in the semis
