Good morning!
I received an email from my Section (Southern) saying “USTA Southern and the states are reviewing the playing of sectional and state championships. Here is pic of the email. Anybody else receive it? If so...please fill it out and show your support for us to at least scrape together what’s left (once the ALL CLEAR is given)

Pretty poorly worded survey. For me I may be interested in playing districts but not sectionals. That's not an option. Also the last question is completely dependent on location. I think the survey is just cover for them cancelling these events. IMO the survey is written as such that they will say we polled the players and the players are clear they would rather focus on local league play.

Nope I haven't gotten anything of that nature. I did get one titled "Getting Through the Quarantine Without Tennis".

Is this question aimed at players that have already completed regular season and qualified for playoffs, and asking them if they want to focus on completing playoffs versus skipping playoffs and starting a new regular season?

"Once suspension is lifted, would you prefer to focus on local league play or attending a state/sectional championship? "

For leagues that haven't completed I believe they are talking about taking the top teams and having a playoff, forgoing the remainder of their season. Then attending a state/sectional championship. Kind of sucks for teams that aren't in contention though since their season will not continue. Of course for those who hadn't started their season or who had only played a match or two, no idea how they'd work that one out.

didnt hear of anyone locally receiving this survey email but it appears Southern Section has come to 'somewhat' a conclusion on post-season. On the southern.usta website there is updated language of continuing with a Sectional championship (have other sections decided/stated on their sectional web?). The timing is a bit interesting. This thread starts on 04.17.20 of players receiving a survey yet the verbiage states that Southern came to a decision on 04.13.20

Then if you click around on the states-own websites within SS they will have similar language about Districts happening and to check back on dates/locations.

Of course no updated dates or locations are solidified as of now but glad a decision was made to give hope to those wanting to advance.

will be interesting how LLCs determine a new format for local leagues to conclude.

anyways good news for players!

Edit Update: players in nearby districts did receive a survey. i did not. either my opinion doesnt matter (hmmsad) or i fall under a slacking LLC.

Word here (Southern/NC) is that they are committed to finishing the Adult (Spring) league and offering Combo (Fall). Other leagues (mixed/tri-level/singles) may be offered in each local league although format, etc at the discretion of the local leagues. Most local leagues appear likely to just not have those leagues this year.

What I'm wondering is if they don't choose to finish the season (2 matches left) and go straight to playoffs, how they will handle eligible players. I only had one match in and would have played in at least one of the last two. There were a couple of guys that had not played at all but would have played the final two weeks to become eligible. I don't see how they could stand by their two match rule in this case. I'm guessing they make everyone on the roster eligible this time.

We received it. We were told no sectionals or championships but they would attempt a league if there is enough interest. Trying to collect any money they can I assume.

I'm in SC and received and returned the survey saying that I'd like to finish the league season (the teams I'm had had only played one match before the shutdown) but have no interest in state championships.
