Corresponds with the fact that both players hadn't the best serve. Even the clear winner Connors made only 50% on his second serve and faced 11 bearkpoints. If my memory holds, Kenny made two breaks. The breakpoints 11-13 shows, that it wasn't so clear as the score suggested. I had the impression then, if Kenny somehow could make a real move, the pendulum of the match could swing.

Connors as shown by the stats played superbly. Only 10 errors in 3 sets on fast grass is impressive even by today's standards.

Yet as Urban wrote, it seems by the stats that Rosewall had his share of chances. You wonder how a Rosewall c. 1964 would have done. Their styles actually were very similar and just a few steps in speed would have made a big difference.

A thread that answers the questions nobody asked. And you left out the most compelling stat:
Rosewall -- 39 years old.
Connors -- 21 years old.

(note -- in fact, Rosewall was just two months shy of turning 40, Connors had just turned 22 that week when they repeated the outcome later that year at the US Open.)

Rosewall seemed to have trouble with 2hb's for some reason. He also struggled against Cliff Drysdale, an excellent player, but, not a player of Rosewall's stature.

One big difference is that Rosewall hardly got any free points on serve in the USO final; and he had far fewer chances to break.

Per krosero's suggestion, here is what a posted in another thread about this match.

Moose, here are my stats for 74 Wimbledon. I had Connors with 55/4/3, 36 of 55 at the net. I have him with 13 serve/volley free points. He was serving and volleying 13 times when the return was not put back in play.
The 4 was either an approach shot error or a clan winner approach. The 3 are points he was at the net at one pont, but didn't end with him there.
Add the 13 and I've got 49 of 68, pretty close to you.

I have Connors serve/volleying 39 of 59 first serves and 19 of 31 second serves.
One point on that. Occasionally, it isn't clear to me what he was doing, staying back or coming in. In that case, I usually just remove it from the count.
That's pretty rare, though.

No doubt, that match is closer than the US match. Rosewall had a bunch of break points. To highlight this here are Connors' net stats from the US. 38/3 with 14 s/v free points. 25 of 38 won at net. S/V 1st serve 33 of 47, second 14 of 23. There were just less points played in this match because Connors was even more dominant.
