Stats for 2005 USO QF (Agassi-Blake)

Moose Malloy

G.O.A.T.
Agassi d Blake 36, 36, 63, 63, 76

Agassi had 37 non service winners: 24 fh, 6 bh, 2 fhv, 4 bhv, 1 ov
Blake also had 37: 28 fh, 6 bh, 1 fhv, 2 bhv,

winners by set:
Agassi: 1, 5, 9, 9, 13
Blake: 7, 6, 11, 2, 11

Blake had 19 aces, 5 doubles. Agassi had 11 aces(Agassi hit 3 aces in a row in the 4th game of the 4th set), 3 doubles.

Agassi had 39 unreturned serves of which I judged 6 as service winners.
Blake had 27 unreturned serves of which I judged 1 to be a service winner.

After 3 sets, these were USA's stats:

They had Agassi at 26 winners, 37 unforced errors. Blake at 39 winners, 32 unforced errors.

So on top of the 37 winners they each had, the main differences were the aces (8 more by Blake) and the service returns (12 fewer errors by Agassi).

And both men were depending on their forehands for winners, esp. Blake: 28 out of 37 winners came from his FH.

That's kind of extreme, statistically. Lendl against Borg in their RG final hit 30 winners, 22 with FH's.

It is interesting how Agassi's winners picked up while Blake's dropped (atleast relative to Agassi) as the match got into the 4th and 5th sets. I would have figured it would be Blake errors turning the match giving their playing styles at that point but not so much. It was an amazing quality match though.
