Far more errors from Verdasco this time around. The quality of the matches are worlds apart.

Did you read the article? There are a lot of stats in that line up pretty close to my stats on the 09 match. I just tracked winners, aces, return errors.

I did. But the errors aren't captured which is where the difference between the matches is - that and Nadal hitting far fewer errors earlier.

Verdasco's UEs went up from 76 to 91
Nadal's UEs went up from 25 to 38

Very similar increase for both players.

But the two matches were about equal in length, and in fact this year was actually a little shorter. So those extra UE's bring down the Aggressive Margins quite a bit.

2009 -- both players had AM's of 24%
2016 -- Verdasco at 14.6%, Nadal at 14.1%

Gotta see this match, I missed it completely

Wasn't close to their AO 09 encounter quality-wise. Only some flashes of brilliance in the rallies and some ballbashing from verdasco. An exciting match, but not high quality.
I'd suggest watch it only when you really have some free time, it isn't a must watch.
