Stencil ink on polyester strings comes off quickly.

Does stencil ink often come off of polyester strings very quickly? I put some stencil ink on copolyester strings and hit with my ball machine the next day. After a couple hundred forehands/backhands most of the ink had transferred from the strings to the balls, to the point that the stencil pattern was no longer distinguishable. Is this normal?

Yup. The ink doesn’t soak into poly like it does gut or nylon. Wilson super ink lasts a bit better but it’s just the way it goes with stenciling poly strings

Doesn't the ink reduce the strings ability to slide on each other in any case? Seems that might be somewhat counter productive when it comes to snap back.

It depends on the coating and also how long the ink is on the strings for. The answer is generally yes, but relatively marginally

I've yet to see a non-sponsored player with stencils on their strings. Probably tells you a couple things: 1) Stencils are advertising and no pro gives his TV time away for free and 2) they add nothing to the function of the string bed.

Anything wrong with just liking the look and feeling cool in your own head?
Sounds like you’re a little insecure to come into a thread with an actual product question and then just bash the premise of the whole situation.

learned something new about poly not taking stencils. I don’t stencil my own (and play poly) but I do get my wife’s stenciled, luckily she’s just synthetic gut. She plays purely for fun and exercise and loves watching the pros on tv. She’ll never spend money on good/branded equipment so it’s a nice little way to add some flair for real cheap.

So? It looks good and it makes the racquet design a little more cohesive to my eyes.

I wouldn't leave the badges off of my car if I ever got it resprayed.

Nothing wrong with liking the look of advertising. Everyone has their own tastes. Not a big logo fan myself. If i could remove the Nike Swoosh from my clothing I'd do it in a second. Its just as valid for me to say i don't like the look of advertising on my frame. The fun of these forums is that we have our own opinions and can discuss them.

If I was going to stencil my frame it would certainly not be a logo of a racket manufacturer. Probably a sports team logo.

But would you spray a big Car manufacturer logo over the hood?

If it were a racecar I would. ;)

Do the pros have some secret sauce for these strings? Their stencil seems to stay on longer than I can get mine to. Nadal's is out of the way a bit from the sweetspot and some players mix gut with poly which stays better but my poly stencil lasts less than 20 minutes before it's no longer legible.
