Still learning: help customizing APD13

Love my APD13, but trying to tackle a slight wrist pain before it gets worse before switching sticks.

I've searched past threads on this topic and here's what I've gathered in my research to help dampen the shock...does this sound good? I'm still learning how to customize...

- Add a better grip, maybe Wilson Shock Shield?
- Pop open butt cap and try silicone... was thinking of using silicone ear plugs so it's less messy/permanent and/or Blu-Tack (then, add lead tape to the hoop to balance out the weight)
- try a softer string

Anything else? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps o.t but it might be a good idea to consult a medic and try to find what the pain you feel actually is and get advice on how to treat it.
I have no idea what level you play at so this might be completely irrelevant but it could be worth getting help from a pro checking out your mechanics and how you hit the ball ...

Some people can play with a stiff Babolat, some cannot. If you are one of the ones who cannot, there is nothing you can do, and just start looking for another racquet.

I would definitely try a softer string like kirshbaum pro line 2 or volkl cyclone tour both 17g to start and if that doesn't work then try the silicone. I was thinking of throwing some silicone in the new pure drive but i have yet to feel its effect on my elbow with full poly. If you are going forward with the silicone though remember that it is permanent and make sure to do plenty of research as fat as procedure goes.

Silicone does not have a dampening properties. Its merely to put a lot of weight on the handle to make it much more headlight. The only way to make it more dampened is either using a long damper, use softer strings, or go low in tension. If none of those work, you would have to find a different racket.

Just changed my string earlier today to the Volkl Cyclone 17g... happy I may have made a right move there.

I was going to try silicone earplugs for the handle so I can reverse it easily if I end up not liking it. Thanks!!

It's a stiff racquet. I do love it though. You can put poster tack in the handle, just put some cotton balls in there first so it doesn't go up in the frame. You might want to try a hybrid in it. It's expensive but gut and poly are a great blend.. You may know this already but once the strings stop snapping back in place and you have to adjust them a lot, it's time to cut them out asap. That will help your arm a lot. Honestly, If RPM at 48lbs isn't working, I'm not sure there is much hope, unless you are leaving the strings in there forever.

I played with one a few years ago. Great racquet and was not killing my joints but too light. Weighted it up for different reasons but the result was to make an already powerful stick a howitzer (but a decently comfortable howitzer at that).

Experiment with strings and silicone/lead/blue tac - they're all easily reversible.

I'm not 100% sure if the wrist pain is from racquet or another isolated event. I play a lot of sports, so possible I tweaked it doing something else. I have no other arm pain...gonna hang onto this racquet for dear life a little bit longer and keep experimenting. I just love how it plays.

Have you heard about grip size affecting the wrist before?

Thanks for your tips!

Yes, either too small or too big could be problematic for the wrist and other body components. But IMHO, if there is wrist pain, technical deficiencies ought to be ruled out first - before suspecting the equipment is the (only) source of the pain.

Grip size and how hard you grip a racquet can have a huge influence on wrist pain. MY PT tells me bigger is safer. When you use a smaller grip, you squeeze with your wrist, bigger, you use your forearm more. Here's a way to compare. grab your index finger and squeeze, now grab your bicep. You should feel a huge difference in which muscles are doinf the work.

This is very helpful. My racquet is L2, but I'm going to go bigger with an overgrip...thank you.
