Stockpiling Frames for future use

Hello,

Anyone here that is committed to one racquet model that is stockpiling frames? What model and how many racquets + grommets do you have?

Would love to see some pictures of all the frames too if you have them!

I have eight limited edition black Dunlop CX200 Tour 18x20’s.

Wanted a black dunlop control frame with yellow/gold strings ever since I first saw Mac use one. Currently have Dunlop Explosive Tour Bite in them.

On paper the 2025 ripstick seems several steps closer to what I believe my dream racket would be. While I have high hopes that I will enjoy it, it's still a 50/50 'till i get my hands on one. Adding fomo and severe fiscal irresponsibility is what has lead me to posses 8 300g ripsticks with half a dozen grommet sets jiic.

I have 7 VCORE SV 98s (1 pro stock) and 9 sets of extra grommets.

I've got three of the v8 Blade Pro 16m. I'm gong to keep adding to the collection as I can find more close to my spec range. As long as Wilson just changes the PJ and not the layup, I'll keep buying them.

If a rec level player realistically needs only 2-4 rackets, is there any benefit to stockpiling a lot more copies? Maybe, only to swap the whole set in about 10 years...

Not really besides the fact if the racquet gets discontinued and you still like the particular frame or the tech in it. You can still use the frames longer and they’ll probably be in better condition. My frames that I use are discontinued so I have a pile myself, but if you asked me and probably anyone else here if it’s really necessary… the answer is probably no hahah. However I have no intention to switch at this time and enjoy collecting. I think it’s cool to see the racquets people are so committed to that they insist are piling up. The pure drive string pattern change is a prime example of people not wanting to switch but stocking up as it’s been 13 years now since their release

I can always play with a Blade. So any chance to collect one of the many versions, I usually take it.

I had 5 I.Prestige and their extra grommet. I broke one, sold another one when I decided I could no longer main it, but keep the other 3 because I somehow still believe my guga years aren’t over yet :-D.
Same with PC600. Have 3 MIA with their original extra grommet and once a year I pretend I can use them in a competitive game. Can’t let them go

Timely topic @codonnell. 3 Prestige Pro 2023s and 2 sets of grommets. Will definitely stock pile if Head really does discontinue the Prestige line going forward!
Thank you! There’s been a lot of talk of some popular racquets starting to be phased out, we could see a lot frames be discontinued in the next 4-5 years. Definitely stock pile on grommets! It never feels good when you have to pay $20+ for them when you can pay 6 or 7!

You get em cheap and you never have to worry about design changes. For example, I loved the Ti Radical. Hated, and I do mean hated, the LiquidMetal Radical. All three of my Ti Radicals cracked at the throat. Eventually I switched to the MFil 200, managed to accumulate seven and didn't think about buying grommets in bulk. Now, I'm almost out of grommets (which I was able to attain what I did when I bought some MuscleWeave 95 reissues after some of my Mfils cracked/pallet issue).

I've since bought 12 CX200 T and fifty some odd grommet sets so hopefully I am now set for life. If I could have found enough of the Dunlop 200 grommets again, I would not have gotten the CX's.

So, those are my benefits.

I bought 10 Gamma 340X Tour when they were released in 2012. I made a mistake of not buying grommets. I recently switched to Vcore 95 so I’m keeping two and selling the rest, since I won’t live that long to use them all.

I find grommets the key. Keep changing the bumper guard out if you wear through so you dont damage the graphite I have found adds lots of life. If i really like a frame I typically buy four but have made the mistake a 'fore ever frame' is not really and ended up with too many racquets!

I agree with that. Over time they may get brittle too, it’s never a bad idea to atleast have a couple extra even for a casual player. As for overdoing the too many racquets for something we may not stick with as long we may like to think, that’s always the risk but can always be sold in the future lol.
