TL;DR: As a small stringing business, can I ask clients to provide their own strings? If not, what do you say is good value/performance strings to carry & resell?
I've gotten myself a stringing machine recently and some hitting partners suggested that I turn that into a business.
I think I might want to try it out, at least during the peak restringing period of April-June next year, once I have enough experience to feel OK charging people for the service.
This brought a question in mind which is:
How should I stock strings if I were to do this?
Buying reels would significantly increase the setup cost of my business, but I feel like asking clients to provide the strings is also not great.
From experience shops in my area that offer stringing services make most of their dough on the string resell (they charge €10 to string in ~48h, €20 for next day stringing) but they have to keep stock anyway.
If I were to order strings on demand, it would make it impossible to string a racket in acceptable time so that's not really an option.
So do you think it's acceptable to ask clients to provide the strings along with the racket?
Or if that's a dealbreaker, what would be the most common strings to carry? (I live in France if anyone's got local knowledge)
I'm guessing I'd need a multi for old people (Velocity MLT or smth), and hyper-g or confidential (or anything from Solinco) for normal people would be good starters?
