Stop comparing generations

There are so many countless useless threads posted about comparing Fed to Pete and the rest of them.
Playing competitive junior tennis in the Sampras/Agassi it is so hard to compare the generations.
It is like comparing fashion.
Having said lets compare not just Pete and Fed but the rest of the top players of each generations.
Serve, no doubt overall servers were better in the Sampras generation. The smoothness of their motions and actually being able to force right after the serve. Sampras, possibly the greatest server, definitely greatest second server of all time. Then there was Becker, Kraijeck, Stich who probably had the smoothest server of all time, Goran, and the list goes on.
Today we have 1 dimensional big servers and only a few of them. Raonic, Karlovic who hasnt done anything.

Return. Today's returners of today are so much better than of yesterday. There are just so many amazing returners. Starting from Djokovic, Nadal, Murray and even Fed who is not really an aggressive returner but blocks countless of returns back where only Agassi and a few others were able to consitently be in return games. Now is this because the servers are that much worse or players have improved that much. Yes, players are getting way stronger, so returning a serve behind you is getting easier due to strengths, but then again nobody is serve and volleying after the big serves of the last generations to put volleys away or simply put returners under pressure.
Then equipment. Racquets have gotten more powerful, but most importantly strings. With new poly type strings you can just get so much more spin that you could not get in the past. It becomes fun ripping balls as hard as you can from the back of the court and everything drops in close to lines, so then you wonder is there any point of even hitting proper approach shots and covering passing shots when good players win points from the back of the court. No questions, you simply practice more baseline points so your approach game and volleys just dont get no where near as good as they were back in the day, there is just no need.
I can keep on going, but it is useless it is a huge cirlce of who is better and what is better. IMO players have gotten stronger and fitter and changes to equipment made them play (argueably) better or simply different than players of previous generations.
Give Muster poly strings with powerful racquets and slow the courts down, and what makes anyone think that he would not be as good as Nadal. You simply cannot compare. Bruigerra himself won 2 Frenches, slow all the courts down like i said and he would be way more efficient against anyone back in the day.
So stop comparing Fed to Pete and anyone else, enjoy good tennis and progress in equipment and technology.

If we did that, this board and others like it would cease to exist.

Is there a purpose to professional sports other than entertainment (and making money, of course)? If part of that entertainment is found through comparing current greats with past greats (which I'm sure is also done in most other sports (and other forms of entertainment)) what in hell is the problem?
