Saw this thread and thought id share a story. Ill see if I can even remember it all:
Playing in the finals of the Section Mens Open a couple years ago. Its against this MN Gopher player who I guess I wont name, but he was #1 seed, made the Spring NCAA singles tournament, very good player but an absolute monster. He started out talking about random things to me during the warmup, even while he is volleying asking me questions. First point of the match I won, and he shouts as loud as he can "NO!!! DONT MISS THAT!!". Anyways I got down about 2-5 or so but I came back to win the set in a tiebreak. At the end of the tiebreak after the last point he hunches over, makes a face like he is going to die or throw up, makes a gagging type sound, and then as he comes to his chair passing by me he says something like "Wow, I never thought Id see the day, great job" and he sticks his hand out to give me 5. During the 2nd set when he loses points he is slamming balls at the celing, back tarp, and yelling things like "Whats he gunna do, hit a winner?", "Look at this guy, drop shot, cheat, drop shot, cheat", "I guess we have Andre Agassi over here", he would question my calls which I was certain about and I would try to say something and explain but he would look at the umpire to ask and then interrupt me and say "Im not asking YOU!". When he won big points he is screaming things like "I will NEVER lose to you!!" And near the end on changeovers he would get a foot from my face and scream "Never in your F-ing dreams will you beat me!", "You got NOTHING!!". I was again down about 1-5 or 2-5 and came back to even it up but lost the set 5-7. The rules of the tournament were to play 10-point tiebreakers for the 3rd set, and the guy is telling me "lets play it out, its tough to go the distance with great players. Are you man enough? Im going to the bathroom you think about it". We played the breaker, and I got up early about 6-3 or so and he called a very close ball out that I thought was good. He says "Come on man I wouldnt cheat you now at this point". I got tight, even missing some putaway shots and he would yell "THATS the one, you got him!". He was then up 9-8 and hit a ball in the corner out of my reach that was very close that would have ended the match, and I actually thought it was going to be in, but after it bounced I saw it a little bit out and called it so. He completely freaked out, came toward the net arguing his case and shouting at me, and I just kept saying I saw it out, even looked over at the people watching and they confirmed it for me as well. Then after a little bit he did a turnaround and just said "9-9, give me the balls, GIVE me the balls! Ill beat you anyway!". I won the next two points to win, and the guy is coming toward the net not saying anything but fuming and looking like he wants to attack me. I said "what, you want to fight?" and he said he did, I just didnt shake his hand at the net and went to get my stuff. Then he is talking about how Im a scrub and I "just go to some shtty Division 2 school". I told him he was an embarassment and every single person watching can see that he is a jerk. Anyways he storms out, and I get my check and go home. But the real story almost starts after that!
He somehow gets my cell phone number off Facebook probably and CALLS me the next day! He is swearing up a storm at me and telling me how bad I am, and how Ive never beaten any good players. He says "Im gunna write your name on my shoe; everytime I get tired and see it Im going to work harder". He keeps berating me for a while and then I just tell him about how he acts and that everyone is going to remember him for that and not how good he is. I also tell him the reason I didnt transfer to MN to play instead of St Cloud was because of him being on the team and theres no way I could put up with that. I talk pretty civil though after and actually say alot of good things about him, I guess trying to settle things for good and maybe make him feel sorry for doing that to me ever again. This works to an extent I think and eventually he does a turnaround and says he wants to start training with me. lol! I just say good luck for next season and that ends it. A few weeks later he sends me an email insulting my girlfriend and picking out features about her to insult. Then he wants to play me for at least $200 somewhere. Needless to say, this guy is a lunatic, youd have to see him play. The thing is, he is almost ALWAYS like this so there are a million stories like this of him doing different antics. It was sweet to finally beat him
