Strange poly string advice from local shop.

My local string shop was really good at string tension advice but for some reason he keeps pushing Tecnifibre polys...

Yet all the reviews of both the black code and ruff code has been very mixed.

Basically I would like a shaped poly that has great tension maintenance ie plays well as long as possible, hopefully till it breaks.

Stiff, mains to be used with a round cross.

I used to love msv hex and black magic but for some reason the quality seems to be all over. The first hex I tried I loved, the reel I bought had strings so mushy and lost tensions so fast I just sold the whole reel off the next day.

With black magic, same thing more or less, first time played great but lost all playability the next day the reel was worse, played badly and was worse the next day...

The owner of the shop basically said that only 3 brands were worth considering. Lux, Tecnifibre and Babolat.

He says the qc of some other brands were iffy or inconsistent, is that true?

Whatever the case is, I really want a stiff, shaped poly that plays good, has the best tension maintenance.

I was really set on MSV hex or Hexonic but my past experience with these strings has made me very wary.

That is odd advice, even stranger that he didn't mention RedCode, which has excellent tension maintenance, though not shaped.
Signum Pro and Tourna both have very good tension maintenance and QC, and some nice, shaped strings as well.
Sounds like he's trying to push what he has/can get.

edit: I think there was a bad batch of SPPP that broke while stringing and soured a lot of people on the strings because of those reviews.
It was an anomaly and long since corrected.

Oh he did mention red code but said it was of an older generation and the newer black/ruff had something called therma coating...? Also mentioned something about the black and ruff being designed to reduce vibrations.

Donno was hoping for some advice here.

Been using tour bite for a while too but it isn't that good at retaining playability.

they are most likely trying to move inventory. Technifibre always has great deals for shops,,,,,, buy it at base price (which for them is VERY cheap, and get three free, etc)

as for quality control, he is either lying or hasn't got a clue. babolat and technifibre poly strings for lack of a better word suck when compared to a lot of poly strings that are half the price.

typhoon actually holds tension and playability quite well. savage and black widow are some other fairly decent strings.

Agree on the price bit... SGD $30 for a set of ruff code??? Come on gimme a break.

Anyway, what's your advice for a long lasting playable shaped poly and an equally durable round poly as a cross. I prefer a stiff poly 1.25 for the mains and a slippery round poly for the cross.

Really. This guy sounds like a Home/Car Audio salesman.

I still don't quite get the poly/poly craze. The differences are subtle, at best.

Try a fullbed of Iontec Hexa or Pro's Pro Vendetta or BHB7, etc. at relatively low tension.

Mawashi, I agree with fortun8son,,, no need for a poly/poly hybrid. Just playtest some different poly strings (full bed)until you find something you are comfortable with.

Good luck.

Many thanks guys but Iontec Hexa or Pro's Pro Vendetta or BHB7??? I've not hear of much less seen these strings here.

Any other suggestions please?

Do a search. You'll find many threads/reviews.
Maybe more than you can stand. 8)

Look for Mamba, Pro's Pro, and Tourna.
I just noticed that you are in SE Asia. That makes a big difference in availability.
Maybe you can get some shipped from the U.S.

I think I know where you have it strung. :)
