String comparable to (or better than) Head FXP Power but with more durability?

I originally used Head Syn Gut PPS and really liked it. The store I went to didn't have it in stock, but they did have the Head FXP Power string. The person at the store said that I would probably like the feel more and would play better with these strings.

When I used the strings for the first time, they felt dead and just awful. But after a little hitting they got slightly looser and that's when I fell in love with the string. I got so much free power that I wasn't used to (I use an Aero Storm which is pretty low powered) and I think I got good spin considering that my shots stayed in even though they looked like they were going to go long. I think I actually played some of my best tennis with these strings. But, after only roughly 6+ hours (over 4 days), the strings seemed to lose tension, they began to fray, and they broke soon thereafter.

I read reviews online and it seemed that these multi strings are below average in terms of what is out there. Is it possible that I liked these strings just because they are multis, or was it probably the actual string I liked? Are there other strings like these that play the same or better, but last longer? I'd hate to have to restring every week or so. Thanks so much for your help!

If you like FXP Power, but want more durability and better tension maintenance, I would suggest you try regular FXP. It plays very similar but is a more durable version at the expense of some of the power of the string. I found I was breaking FXP Power crosses very fast with a synthetic gut main, but the FXP last much longer and still felt similar.

If you try the string and like it, but want to get a little more power out of them, just drop your tension a few pounds.

Alternatives to try staying with the strings you are familiar with would be (1) FXP or possibly (2) Head PPS 17 Synthetic Gut mains with FXP Power(or FXP) crosses.

If you want to try some good multis with power, Technifibre NRG2 and X-One Biphase are both excellent "power" strings that have decent durability. I believe that NRG2 has more of the feel of FXP Power, while X-One plays more like FXP.

I would suggest finding some strings that you like the feel and durability of and then you can adjust tension for power.

Thanks for the advice! I took your idea of mixing syn gut and multi. I decided to put PPS in the crosses and FXP in the mains all at 55. I broke the crosses of the FXP Power so I thought that I would be "safe" having the multi in the mains, and I thought that that should help the playability. Hopefully I'll like how they play, and if I do, I hope they won't break so fast!!

We'll I tried a hybrid of FXP and PPS Syn Gut both at 55 and I'm still missing the way I played with just FXP Power. Do you think if I had put the FXP power in the hybrid instead of the FXP it would have been different? Or is it just the fact that nothing would play like full multi?

Now I'm wondering if I should try full FXP or if I should try FXP Power with string savers? I've never used them before...

Typically the mains will break first in most setups so if you are breaking crosses before mains then those crosses are very 'breakable' comparable to the main used. I've not used either string but would seem fxp mains with fxp power crosses would be the more durable setup but again probably won't meet the same playablity you had preferred with the full power setup. And that is usually the drawback to many multis: great playability with poor longevity.

Try string savers that will help prevent breakage but not loss in playability.
