String for Aeropro Drive GT

Hi all,

I have currently got an Aeropro Drive GT strung with Babolat RPM Blast at tension 58. It has been strung for about 8 months now, and I play about 3 times a week. I don't really like RPM Blast as I am not getting much control and I don't like the feel. I keep hitting the ball out, even with a western grip.

So, I am thinking of getting a new string, but confused on what to get. Here is what I have considered so far:

Babolat Pro Hurricane @ 60lbs

Tecnifibre Black Code @ 60lbs

Prince Synthetic Gut @ 58lbs

Babolat Revenge @ 60lbs

Luxilon Big Banger ALU Power @ 60lbs

Which string would be good for me? I want much more control. I have chosen 60lbs because at 58lbs (Yes, I know it's probably at 53lbs now) I had no control.

Thanks in advanced.

RPM blast doesn't last 8 months.

Maybe get it restrung and see how you go?

At 58lbs it's pretty stiff...

Yeah, But I never really liked RPM in the first place. I might give it another go though. I thought maybe 60LBS would be good to account for the tension loss.

How long do you think RPM or any other string lasts?

My RPM Blast dies out in like a day worth of playing. . . . Polys are meant for string breakers, that's why they die out so fast. But in the beginning they feel great. i suggest a hybrid between Revenge as crosses 60lb and prince synthetic at 58lb. just mix and match until you get the right one. Might be a little costy :/

Well if they die out so fast, I might just use something that lasts longer as I don't have the money to go restringing every few weeks :D

go RIP C and string it high, that would last a few months if you don't break it.

The only strings that would still play good after 8 months are probably a high end multi (doubt it would last 8 months but maybe 4-6), Natural Gut (assuming you don't break it, It's not that easy to break, this would last forever, rec players under 4.0 usually don't break strings and players 4.5+ know that they need to restring often since their breaking their strings), or Kevlar. Everything else eventually dies.

Although it you really want to use poly go with the weisscannon strings, they last longer than many others.

I play Bab APDGT and i have all the co-polys you mentioned above, and I liked fresh strung RPM Blast the most, but after about 2.5-3 playing hours, the string went to soft and hard to control the ball

A MUCH BETTER option is MSV Focus Hex in 1,27 mm. It holds tension/elasticity much better and costs about 1/3 of the Babolatstring, atleast here in Sweden.
The MSV string does everything what the RPM does, but stays fresher much longer

But 3 times a week is around 6 hours, he would need to restring every 1.5-2 weeks, but he too poor.

There is another thread where people talk about putting poly on crosses and gut on main. Amongst other things, it keeps the poly fresher for longer (so I read).

I'm thinking of giving it a try next restring because RPM does die quickly ;-(

Had a look at Natural Gut , but they are quite expensive.. Maybe better off restringing every 3-4 months. I play around around 3 hours a week, less in winter which is about to start soon.

What about Babolat Xcel Premium @ 60lbs. Would that last around 4 months? Is it a good string for control and feel?

Also, do strings lose tension and lose playability if they aren't used for a few months?

Try Prince Synthetic Gut @ 58lbs and see how long that last for you (and see if you like the feel).

If you don't use it for a few months, you should still re-string regardless what string you choose.

I use the APDGT and my 2 favorite strings are Prince Premier Attack 16 and Head RIP Control 17. Both are great strings with distinct feel.

It makes it playable longer but not 3-4 months long

Spoke to the guy at the Pro shop and he recommended me to get some Tecnifibre XR1 strings. I'll got them for $55NZ including labour. I'll get to have a hit on Sunday to see how they go.

In your case you should restring poly-strings at least every 2 months.
So it's 6 stringjobs a year
15 NZD (labour) + 15 NZD (strings) multiplied by 6 = 180 NZD

With nat gut you need 2 stringjobs a year:
15 NZD (labour) + 60 NZD (babolat vs 16) multiplied by 2 = 150 NZD

Natural gut holds tension and playability til they break. I highly recommend you to try them out. I've played with aeropro drive gt with polys at same tension as you. Got tennis elbow for 15 months!
If your stringer already put the Tecnifibre XR1 strings on the racket, just play with them. And if the tension feels right bump it up 2 lbs for the gut.

The stringer has put the XR1's on and just had a quick 5 minute hit after they were strung. They feel great. I'll be able to play fully with them tomorrow. The tension feels fine at 58lbs.

What natural gut would you recommend? Babolat VS/tonic?

I have only used Babolat vs team 17 myself. But what I read from this forum KLIP legend 17 is almost as good. Some prefer it over Bab because it's slighly less powered.
I must say the power level of my current setup is a little too high (95" 16x18 @57/54). Next time i'll try KLIP or just higher tension.
