String + Labor price : good deal?

Sorry if this has been ask 4 million times already.

The store i go to dont charge labor cost if you buy the string from them. but in return, their strings are a bit more pricy...

There are some really good deals like Babolat Pro Hurricane for $20 or $25 (cant remember), which is pretty cheep because it cover the labor cost. Prince Lightingxx for 20 also.

Heck, a lot of thier strings are 20 bucks. They also charge wilson syn guy extreme for 20 too... which is like 7x the normal price. But like i said, they dont charge for labor if i buy the strings from them.

How much do your shops charge you? and for those who strings, how much do you charge others? i really want to learn how to strings, but i cant spend $650+ on a machine. Guess i can just get a job at my shop next year to learn... take note i am asking for the labor cost, not the cost of strings.

I charge 10bucks for labour and 2-3$ for my Gosen strings. Sometimes it can be a good deal.

If you go to the shop and buy strings that are expensive, then it is a good deal for you but buying Wilson Syn. gut at 20 is expensive but I guess that includes the labour as well which makes it not that bad.

you could try buying a used Klippermate stringer for about 100bucks. You'll get the money back in 5-6 stringings. Also, string for your friends and other people.

That means they're charging for labor. Do the math and you'll be alright.

well some of them are like a steal while other is more like a kill. The Hurricane Tour for 20 bucks is like 5 dollars labor while the wilson syn extreme is like 15 dollar labor. thats a big difference :?

I think this was already covered in the other thread.

Where I live, I can get two racquets strung for me with a hybrid string job and labor for $52.

That's pretty good for labor cost + strings.

Over here in the Seattle metropolitan area, Avanti Sports in Seattle charges $18 + strings (a well known tennis store for tennis players). Their cheapest string is $25 for strings + labor. Babolat PHT I think they charge ~$40. Forestcrest Tennis Club in Edmonds charges $10 + strings, but I'm not sure about Sturtevant's Sports in Bellevue.

The stringer at Sturtevant's Sports IS certified and is a Master Racquet Technician,(he came from Fiorini Sports which had a $15 labor fee), Avanti Sports and Forestcrest do not have certified stringers.

But now that I have a stringing machine, I'd rather do my own :). I've only done around 5 or 6 so far though. I think most people on the forum shun beginning stringers from charging labor fees. If I recall correctly, a beginning stringer has strung less than 25 racquets.

Noticed you're in Elk Grove, CA. Is the place that charges that way Sport Chalet?

haha it is because i live near that sports chalet on bond.. my little brother strung his racket there with the pro hurricane .. not bad for once in awhile but we break strings frequently so we're planning to invest in a string machine sometime in the near future..

I see, I was asking because I used to string there and might have strung your racquet in the past. For the past year, I've been away at college and will be headed off again in September. I'm not quite sure who currently handles the stringing at that store though
