String length required for mains

I have a Babolat Pure Storm Ltd GT 18x20 and when I searched the Klipper USA website, it said the racquet requires 21'M x 19'C of string.

http://www.klipperusa.com/stringing/viewpattern.php?mfg=TBAB

I don't string my own racquets but take it to a stringer to do it for me. Does this mean that I can't use, say a pack of 40' string for two string jobs in the mains as I'd use up 21' the first time, and have only 19' left? I noticed that even some half-sets were labelled as 20' only (i.e. Babolat VS Gut half-set).

20' should be more than enough for the mains. the string length recommendations are always too generous.

its long enough, and if not it will still at least be long enough to tie a knot and your stringer can do a bridge. If he doesn't know how to do that then you should be getting your racquets strung somewhere else.

If you use a soft stretchy string like syn gut or a multi, 20 feet should be enough. OTOH, if you use a stiff non-stretchy poly, then 20 feet may not be enough even for an experienced stringer because there isn't enough string left at the end to tension and tie knots properly. Two cents.

If you're not sure, prestring all the mains in your racquet and measure, leaving about 6 inches on each end for last tension and knot. Do not cut the string. You only need the length measurement.

Jester- thanks for asking this question! As I'm extremely new to stringing... I assumed to just cut a set in half. Now I see the klippermate site says 21 for my Prince Ozone Tour I was going to tackle early next week.

Your best best is to ask the stringer if he can do it. If he cuts the string in half and it does not work what are you going to do. It should work.

Klippermate's site is a bit generous on string length in my opinion. It says that I should use a total of 34' to do a Wilson 90 racquet. I can string mine with 33 feet and have about 3 feet +/- left over when I'm done. I pull 33' off the reel and then measure out 9' for the short side on a one-piece stringjob. I have no problems pulling tension and tying off without having to bridge anything on a Pioneer DC Plus.

It is possible to get two sets of mains out of a 40' set.
It may cut it pretty close , though.
Depends on the machine. Neos, no prob. 8)
