String Playtest - June 2010

Just got my sample. My fingers already hurt just by looking at it. Twisted pentagon shape should be interesting stringing the crosses.

All strung up at 52lbs. Coil memory wasn't bad at all. Strung up nicely seemed pretty elastic; had to ratchet the drop weight a little more than I'm used to. Going to go with with it tonight if conditions don't get worse, looking forward to it. :)

Maybe the new Solinco twisted/edged black poly string?

It's possible. I'll post pictures soon.

Little hard to see the shape, but here are some pics.

Quick question. When you guys play test the string. Are you required to use the string in a full bed of Poly? Or are you allowed to string hybrid, like multi/mystery string or gut/mystery string? Thanks :)

Full bed of the stuff breaksracquet. I have RPM Blast in my racket right now, and I'd rather not waste it, so this string may have to wait a few days.

Please string it as a full set. No hybrids please.

just got my strings. Anyone know if this is just 40 feet? Also, I would love to know if its a softer co-poly or a normal poly? Someone mentioned it was pretty elestic so that's a good sign.

cut my set right in half strung on an 16/20 Have enough for both though got close on the mains

Jason, why is a 10+ years of Poly user like myself with unimaginable intelligence not chosen for the playtest ???:confused:

My intelligence is incomprehensible, and I wasn't chosen.

Looks like the new Solinco string to me. Well, possibly.

fedace you got picked last time so give other people a chance lol.. and I just strung it up at 57lbs. Going to hit with it later today.

Played with it strung at 57lbs so far it's playing pretty nicely. Still need a couple more hrs with it to review fully.

First impressions.....
 • playing conditions (temperature, indoor/outdoor, court surface)
80 degrees, outdoor hard court, dry conditions, no wind.
 • tension it is strung (please do not hybrid)
~56 lbs.
 • String pattern of your racquet
Strung on a Babolat Pure Storm Tour (16x20)
 • power (or lack there of)
Quite low. Initially balls were landing very short. Had to adjust swing to hit out more to find depth. Needed to work hard to keep the ball deep.
 • feel
None whatsoever. One of the worst feeling strings I've ever played with. Could not feel the ball on the strings, regardless as to how I struck the ball. Absolutely minimal feedback.
 • tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension)
Too early to tell....
 • Overall comments and feedback
The only thing about this string that seems to shine is the spin potential. Initially I felt that perhaps my lack of depth was due to the excessive spin I was getting, but after adjusting my stroke I managed to get better depth. I felt the spin was perhaps slightly better than RPM, but the lack of feel really seemed to make depth placement a bit of a guessing game. A number of shots were landing in that I felt were going long. As a consequence, control seemed elusive with this string as well.

I need to play test it more to give a more comprehensive review.

JRod...how was comfort? I am surprised that is not a required category.

I didn't really play long enough to get a really decent sense here, but any string lacking in feel I would think might be lacking in this department. That said, comfort is heavily influenced by tension and the frame type being used, so maybe the right combo might be ok?

I would like to join String Playtest - June 2010 as well. If it is not to late. Just seen the thread today. Have had some employee problems and haven’t had much time to get on line much lately, but things are looking better now...

Would love to participate as well if it's not too late. I string my own racquets on a Laserfibre machine and use the PC 600.

They said as a full bed, but am sure that there will be some that will string hybird just like on the Wilson play test...

power (or lack there of)
I had BlackCode/Prince syn gut hybrid on my racquet before stringing this set. The power seems considerably less than with the hybrid setup.

feel
Compared to my previous setup this had very little feel. Perhaps that is to be expected when comparing what appears to be a fully poly to a poly/syn gut hybrid but this setup did not offer good feel or pocketing.

tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension)
I have only played about 5 hours with the new set and so far it seems to have retained his tension characteristics.

Overall comments and feedback
Perhaps in a hybrid this would provide better feel and power but as a full set this would not be my string of choice.

beernutz, how do you like the Black Code/Prince syn gut hybrid??? I am hitting with Black Code as a full set up but was thinking about BC with Prince syn with Duraflex....

I really like that hybrid. I have tried BlackCode in a hybrid with both Prince Syn Gut with Duraflex and with Technifibre eMatrix and both play about the same to me but the Prince seems to last much longer. I am not a string breaker by any means but even I can wear away eMatrix enough to break it in 10 hours or so of play. I like the way it plays up until it breaks though.

Thanks for the reply beernutz. What tension would you recommend in a Volkl DNX 3 110 head ???

String pattern of your racquet

power (or lack there of)

Very little power involved. Maybe it's because I strung it very high.

feel
Feel and the volleys were horrible with this racket. Not my string of choice if i were a serve and volleyer.

tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension)
This string holds tension VERY well. Up until it went dead, tension was retained with no string movement.

Overall comments and feedback
I wouldn't play with this string again in my opinion. The only thing good about this string is how good it plays at the beginning (yet it can still be beat by other good strings) and the tension maintenance. It went dead after about 6 hours of hitting to the point where I am going to cut it out.
