String recommendations for Wilson Blade V9 98 16x19

Hey,

Just bought Blade and I would like some string recommendations.
Played so far with Alu Power 1.25 52 lbps.

Traditionally, I have only tried Alu Power, Alu Power Rough, RPM Blast and Hawk Touch on my previous rackets (Blade v7 98 16x19, Head Speed MP 2022).

Can you recommend some mainlypolyester strings?

What about Luxilon Element, 4G, Champions choice etc

Thank you in advance,

Every person I've seen with a Blade plays it with Hyper G.
Ditto this, I liked hyper g in the demo I hit with.

I imagine element would be nice, but it’s not the longest lasting. Maybe try adrenaline? I like adrenaline in my Blade V6, but I can’t say how it’d be in the V9. But it does give a little more pop than hyper g

What would you like to be different from ALU 125? Got any likes/dislikes? Do you have a preferred setup out of the 4 strings you mentioned using in the past?

Luxilon Alu Power Rough + Blade v7 is the best setup i have ever experienced. In my second racket Speed MP 2022 , Hawk Touch 1.25 was the best followed by Lynx Tour Champagne (albeit very high increase on SW. Heaviest string)
I really like Alu Power but i feel like it becomes a trampoline/rocket launcher after a week or so of play. Thats a problem given the way I hit.

I would like to have a string with similar characteristics that enhances the capabilities of the Blade but at the same time durable and lasting as im currently playing around 6-7x times per week.
Regarding Alu Power, I dont have the financial capacity to be restringing every week or buy a 200m reel or a stringing machine atm.

The alternatives im thinking of trying atm are:

Luxilon Element bronze 1.25
Solinco Hyper G neon green 1.25
Lynx Tour Champagne 1.25
(maybe Champions choice hybrid just to try for the first time a hybrid and consider then if it suits me and if i can find a cheaper hybrid alternative)

I have also heard about 4G but im not that flat hitter and its stiffness rating is extremely high. Maybe the softer version would be worth a try idk.

I have been using ALU Rough 125 in my Blade v9s and it's great. Even when it's close to breaking it's still fine. However, I've used ALU in some shape or form for years and am used to it when it's lost some tension. There isn't very much like it, and nothing is an exact copy.

Sounds like you're looking for playability duration first, yes? Depending what you like about ALU, you could look at:
  • 4G and 4G Soft - Soft is crisper and less dead-feeling and still holds tension well. Drop the tension on both compared to ALU both because of stiffness and less tension loss. Control is still good and predictable down low. You don't need to hit flat to use these...or anything for that matter.
  • Lynx Tour - use a thinner gauge or hybrid with a round cross if you're concerned about the extra 2-3 points of swingweight. You had a positive experience already with this too.
  • ALU Soft - Better playability duration than regular ALU with similar performance - it's still ALU, so it plays like it in general.
  • Solinco Tour Bite - I suggest this, or even Confidential, over Hyper G just because Hyper G feels so different compared to ALU. Tour Bite is a more direct comparison. Thicker gauges maintain playability well and it's so stiff that a little tension drop opens up the stringbed without becoming launchy.
  • Champion's Choice - Gut mains you're going to get a lower launch angle but greater power and playability duration. However, it's expensive and multi mains as a substitute don't really come close to the Lux gut in durability and performance. Gut crosses you'll still get that same drop in performance from the ALU mains just not so pronounced.
  • Element - it's softer and drops tension and playability quickly, faster than ALU for me. I break it quicker than ALU as well. I don't think this is what you're looking for.
  • ALU/ALU Rough 130 - Better playability duration in the thicker gauges and the least adjustment from your current setup.
Hopefully this is not too many options. If you share what qualities of ALU you appreciate the most - is it the feel, the spin, the power, etc. - I can rank them for you based on my impressions. Of course, it may not be reflective of your experience but it's a start if you want it.

What is different about Hyper G? I see that a lot on Blades.

Well regarding Alu Power Rough, I would say that I loved pretty much everything feel, power, spin.
I last used it on the Blade V7 racket which was my first and i didnt even have good power and technique at the time. However, I have never felt before such an amount of plush/explosiveness my racket.
The ball was leaving the racket like a rocket. I think i have served the fastest with that. Alu Soft I have also used but didnt like it, it seemed way too metallic. I would rank them like Rough, Alu power, soft.

So i guess im leaning more towards like
4G Soft, Lynx Tour, something from Solinco and Alu Rough/ Champions choice or some similar hybrid.

Regarding, Champions Choice do you think it can last around a month of playing 6-7x times per week including tournament matches maybe? (clay, hot conditions around 28c)

Update: I have tried Hyper G 1.25 23kg. Got severe elbow/shoulder pain from serves.
Im thinking of trying 4G Soft or Lynx Tour now around 22 kg.

Have you tried Grapplesnake Tour Sniper?

Put simply you are not going to find a string that plays just like ALU that is more durable. If there was one, many of us would be playing it.

I have found Tour Sniper to be a terrific string in my Blades that shares some qualities with ALU and lasts way longer than the 2 hours I get out of ALU.

Update:
So far I have tried
Alu Power 1.25 grey,
hyper g 1.25
Luxilon 4G Soft 1.25

currently on Lynx Tour Champagne 1.25.

Lynx Tour plays the best out of all excluding the first hours of Alu Power.

Yet to try Alu Power Rough which in my opinion is the most magical string for Blades.

This is what I tried on the Blade v9 so far

Plastic feel, powerful - Hyper G
Dampened feel, ok power - Tour Bite Soft
Balanced feel, moderate power - ReString Sync
More feel, firm and low power - Luxilon 4G Rough
What's your favorite setup on it at the moment?

Luxilon Savage, thank me later

Volkl Cyclone 18g at 52 pounds. Comfortable, good control, enough power, and makes a nice sound off the string bed.

Anyone rocking Head Hawk Power in the Blades?
So so, not great not terrible. Slightly softer but OK, not too soft or mushy at all, underpowered, slightly too muted, slightly lacking spin, prone to shear breaks on a mishit and breaking during stringing

How long does Alu rough last in the blades and for an open pattern do you go Alu rough 1.30 all round or 1.25 rough and 1.30 rough cross ? For added control and also because the 1.30 lasts longer

Mileage will vary depending on the player, but 1.25 ALU Rough lasts me 2-3 hours In my V8 Blade Noir. Plays great for that period, but I only use it for matches due to the durability. 1.30 would likely last a little longer and add some control with a little less spin potential. All of the above applies to regular round ALU as well.

Tru Pro:
Black Knight 1.23 47lbs. 8-10hrs
Tour Status 1.25 49lbs. 3-5hrs

*Ghostwire in the crosses if you want to soften up the string bed.

I have been playing with Blade (18x20) for almost 10 years and I swear by 4G.
I recently strung my 18x20 blade with 4G and I can still feel it in my elbow. Amazing string but oh so stiff. To answer OP’s question, Head Lynx Tour and Tourna S7T are my favorite strings to complement the Blade. I don’t get the hyper with Hyper G at all!

Recently got blade 98 16x19 v9 with some multi in it already and it feels great. The only qualm I have is that some short angle shots I have hit with zero with success and same technique just won't work as easily. I was wondering what is the best string to keep that comfortable multi feel while getting some more spin for some help because it is possible to hit the shots, but I feel like it shouldn't be that much harder with a multi. If I'm wrong and poly is the way to go for help with spin, please let me know.

Multis are just bad at spin. Comfortable poly is Element, Signum Pro Firestorm, Tf Razor Code white, all 1.25, from softest to firmest but not too firm

Also Blades aren't spin racquets. You can get reasonable spin with them, but it doesn't come naturally, they like flatter hitting. When you want spin you have to really brush the ball with intent

You can try hybriding the multi w/ a poly cross like Trupro Ghostwire or Grapplesnake Irukandji for added spin.

For the blade pro 16x19 v9 I have a multi that feels great but the spin is not there which is crucial for my all court game with short angles and spinny drop shots, I am actually a fan of that ptp muted feel(not dead underpowered feeling) but I can't really afford to restring often so is zero a good option maybe with something in the crosses for some control?
