string reel issue

I was stringing 4 racquets last night after work, and was using PSGD from reel for all 4 of them.
Reel was about 2/3 to end, and string would no longer unwind from reel. Had to unloop from under each revolution around , was evidently not loaded up in reel properly from manufacturer. Added about 15-20 min to the time, as it was a mess. finally got it back to normal.
Anyone else get a reel like that before?
I never ran into that issue ever in past.

I’ve had a few given to me to string from like that but never had the issue myself. I take the end and loop it through one of the outer holes in the outer rim so the string does not get twisted.

I've had the same once. Wilson Syn Gut Extreme. I was about a third of the way into it when I hit the problem, and it was like that all the way to the end. I thought about sending it back, but it was on clearance when they discontinued it.

Yup, a reel of Gamma Moto like that was given to me by a futures player. It was brand new, still in the package. I managed to get enough string off of it to string his 2 frames. But the reel was a mangled mess. Fortunately he said the reel was free and not to worry about it.

I do the same. Reel must have been that way from manufacturer.

I have also had that happen before as well. I don't recall what brand but it was a pain as I was constantly having to take the spool off my "spool holder" and feed it through the loop in the string and then put the spool back on the holder the other way.

@jim e I can’t imagine the way reels are wound that happening unless the end came loose and got inside the reel. Then if the coils overlap you have the problem

I wonder if you could cut the center out of the reel, take the end from the inside and wind it on another empty reel? I’d put the coil of string on a rod or pipe first so it wouldn’t tangle.

-i would take your issue over the birdsnest!! haaa
-btw, it happens!!, just like the t-shirt says! :)
-i sometimes get a tied plastic shopping bag ,(along with the racquet) from the client, because thy could not sort out their own string from the reel

I've never had the string direction tangle problem. Sounds similar to trolling with copper; you don't want to get a loop and ruin your morning. I do get annoyed when the reel is cracked or damaged and it doesn't unwind properly as the string catches the cracked reel..

Just don't pull it too tight trying to force it off. Sometimes all you have to do is push the string back through whatever the strings that are binding it. Sometimes, only once. Other times, its quite a few.

And, other times, you just have to rip the reel apart and rewind the string onto whatever you have available (hopefully, an empty reel)

TTPS has this issue with every string whether it’s a packet or a reel! :-D

but yeah, I’ve encountered this before. It sucks.

Agreed. Very annoying! I have a reel of Discho iontec that’s cracked. Argh!

Clearly, this happens when the loose end gets under another loop on the reel. It CANNOT be
wound onto the reel that way. Sometimes, if the end is loose when you receive the reel you must be careful
from the start. Otherwise it is user error. Always tuck the loose end through one of the holes on the reel (plastic)
or tape it down to keep this from happening going forward (but most of you knew all of this...)
