string: spin potential & arm friendly???

saf

Rookie
I have been experimenting again with some polys (went through this phase 2 years ago). Although I love the spin potential and control, I don't think my arm is going to be able to handle them. Is it possible to have a string that is soft and arm friendly with excellent spin potential? From my experience the stiff strings (ie Kevlar & poly) yield the best spin production.

Any advice on some soft strings that have excellent spin production is greatly welcomed.

Thanks...

Yonex has a good soft string....I think its called 850 Tour (either "soft" or "spin" is also in the title). Maybe someone else knows the exact name of the string. I remember hitting with this string over the winter and it was excellent for what you are seeking. I hope it helps.

I play with Pros Pro top spin... The thickness is 1.28-1.33 which generate more spin. I cant feel any pain in my arm, but the durabilty is not the best.

Another string which is very arm friendly is the popular Head Rip Control. I havent played with it yet, but my friends told me thats its an excelent string!

I've been playing with a hybrid of Big Banger Ace (18) in the mains and Gosen OG Sheep Micro 18 in the crosses. It's delivering good spin and has been pretty comfortable.

Volleyman - what tension do you play your BB ACE setup? And do you play with a dampener?

Been wanting to try ace mains with gosen 18g crosses.......

prince topspin, babolat razorspin

i know that razorspin is a poly, but it's softer than a BB string. Topspin may be a poly also. I'm not as familiar with it.

Did you get the gosen 18 at TW. I ordered a reel last week, and even thought the web site says it is in stock - the order was held up...I really want to try it.

Try some Signum Pro Poly Plasma in 18g. I like the control and spin, and it's the most arm friendly poly I've tried, and I've tried most of 'em. Good tension maintenance as well as nice durability for an 18g.

Switched from BB Ace18 and am very happy with the choice. Actually went back to a job of Ace just to make sure and it seemed harsh by comparison, which was not what I thought of it the past year or so. Loved Timo 17 but my elbow couldn't hang.

I've had some elbow issues over the years, just can't give up the control I get with a poly, and this stuff is the best I've found as a compromise.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Forten Aramid Gear String!! It really bites the ball and have incredible spin potential, and not to mention it is easy on the arms.

spin potential and soft? thats eays...anything 18g....that is if durability ain't an issue. try some psg, or nrg2, or maybe when the x-1 18 comes in check that out

I had my Slazenger X-1s strung at 52lbs, both mains and crosses, on a crank stringer. That's a little more than 5% less than my normal 55 lbs for multifilaments.

I might take it down 1 or 2 more pounds as an experiment. I'm pretty happy with the control, power and comfort, but it never hurts to try something a little different. :-)

I bought both the BB Ace and the Gosen 18 from TW. However, I didn't buy reels, just a set of each.

The Signum Pro Poly Deluxe also comes in thin guages and is the softest poly I have hit with since the Topspin Poly Polar. It does not have the same tension holding properties as the Poly Plasma, but it does play softer and holds tension better than the Poly Polar did. Not sure I am willing to call any poly "arm friendly" but used in hybrids some of the softer polys are not as prone to contributing to elbow/arm pain. As moosryan indicated, thinner guage strings generally provide decent spin potential.
