Stringing natural gut with Wise 2086

Just curious if anyone here has strung natural gut on a wise 2086? I have the 2086 series 14 (attached to an Tourna 300-CS) and have had a great experience with it over the past year but I string almost exclusively poly strings, occasional syn gut for clients. I do notice some ghosting from the gripper of the wise at times so I was wondering if that would be problematic with the natural gut? I'm wanting to try a gut/poly hybrid for myself but don't want to ruin/waste a set of natural gut

Yes.
I strung natural gut using my Wise (series 12) many times. It's a really good idea to adjust your linear gripper to find the optimum spot for the particular gauge you're using.
If you adjust your linear gripper optimally, you should be able to have it "grip" the string sufficiently without overly squeezing the string (but also not allow it to slip through the gripper plates either).

Allowing the gripper plates to overly squeeze the string (especially multifilaments and/or natural gut) can lead to ghosting of the string... or worse, flattening/smashing of the string.

If necessary, I can show you how to perform some test pulls which will allow you to determine exactly how much (or how little) your gripper needs to be adjusted.

Cheers, Wes

I have 2086 series 14 on an Alpha Revo 4000 and use gut x poly as my primary string combo. I string gut all the time and have never had any issues with the gripper damaging any gut strings (Babolat, Pacific, Lux, Wilson, Klip, or Volkl).

More important than the gripper is making sure you don't kink the string and you don't reverse the twist of the gut fibers while you are weaving or winding the string around the diabolo

I reached out to Wise and they sent me a video on how to adjust the gripper via the screw, I just haven't done a string job since. I'll try to do some adjusting myself and see if it makes a difference. I'll PM if I'm still having issues/questions. Thanks for the reply!

Clean the clamps before you string with nat so you dont have to clamp as hard without it slipping. i use a small brass pipe brush and run it through the clamp both ways. Poly likes to leave a lot of "residue" on the teeth and it does build up over time.

If you have a Gamma machine it is very important to use either the Gamma adapter or the diablo. Preferably the diablo because that will reduce the pressure on the string by the gripper plates, and in turn less pressure means less ghosting.

I play NG mains. No issues on my series 12. Mild ghosting at times, but i also have that from the string clamps.

Never been a problem, even when i used to string the cheap India gut.

Only issue i've ever had with NG is from a kink. And don't spin it for choice on the court, especially clay...

Strung up my new Head TGT293.1 with luxilon gut 1.25 mains and restring sync 1.20 crosses @55/52. Adjusted the gripper slightly and cleaned my clamps and no issues! Can’t wait to try it out on court! Thanks all for the input and recommendations!

I do string natural gut on my Wise (my own and others). I've found that the most important thing (besides keeping your machine clean) is to use the Diablo cone when you tighten the string. I've never had the gut "flatten" out when I used the Diablo.
